Description

As a Senior Environmental Engineer you will be responsible for leading and supporting environmental compliance programs at a complex industrial refinery. Applies Chemical Engineering principles to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations related to air emissions, benzene control programs, hazardous waste, and environmental reporting

Job Duties:

  • Lead air quality and emissions compliance programs in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as program coordinator for the Benzene Waste Operations National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (BWON).
  • Serve as program coordinator for the Benzene Fenceline Monitoring Program, including implementation, quality assurance/quality control, data validation, and regulatory reporting using U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Methods 325A and 325B.
  • Manage Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), including emissions monitoring associated with fluid catalytic cracking units (FCCU).
  • Develop, review, and validate air emissions calculations for regulatory reporting and internal compliance purposes.
  • Perform greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions monitoring activities.
  • Plan and oversee environmental sampling programs for air, waste, and groundwater in accordance with EPA sampling methods and permit requirements.
  • Review laboratory analytical data and quality assurance documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory and technical requirements.
  • Apply analytical chemistry principles to interpret environmental data and support regulatory compliance decisions.
  • Provide environmental compliance support during refinery startups, shutdowns, operational upsets, and abnormal events.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports, including air emissions reports, Benzene Fenceline reports, Tier II (EPCRA Section 312) reports, etc.
  • Support preparation and maintenance of Risk Management Plans (RMP) in accordance with 40 CFR Part 68.
  • Support hazardous waste management activities, including waste characterization and compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) requirements.
  • Participate in regulatory audits, inspections, and agency inquiries, and maintain audit ready environmental compliance documentation.
  • Support environmental incident response activities, including data evaluation and regulatory notification support.


This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) or foreign degree equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering, and
  • 5+ years of experience in Environmental Engineering or Environmental compliance within a refinery or complex industrial operations.
  • Knowledge of federal and state air quality regulations applicable to refinery operations, including benzene-related regulatory programs.
  • Experience implementing or overseeing benzene fenceline monitoring programs using EPA Method 325A and EPA Method 325B.
  • Experience serving in a technical role related to the Benzene Waste Operations National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (BWON).
  • Experience with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and air emissions calculations.
  • Experience with environmental sampling methods and laboratory data quality assurance/quality control.
  • Experience preparing or supporting environmental regulatory reports, including EPA Tier II (EPCRA Section 312) and Risk Management Plans (40 CFR Part 68).
  • Extensive knowledge of chemical engineering practices, including scientific and economic principles, calculation methods, process design details, and the application of engineering codes, standards, and specifications in an industrial environment.
  • Able and willing to regularly work on a full-time basis at the assigned location and arrive to work at scheduled start time.
