Job Description:

Are you ready to lead complex engineering programs that span multiple functions, products, and global operations? The 785 and 789 mining trucks are two of the most important and profitable models in our LMT lineup and are widely recognized as market leaders throughout the industry. As a Senior Engineering Project Team Leader and Platform Lead for the 785/789-08 Tech Platform machines, you will be uniquely positioned to drive strategic initiatives that shape product innovation, optimize technical execution, and deliver enterprise-wide impact. This role leads the technical engineering and interdisciplinary teams, manages high-risk projects, and embeds technical excellence across the value chain. Areas of focus include product design and validation, as well as cross-functional collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and customer-facing product support and marketing teams.

What You Will Do
  • Define project scope to address strategic business challenges and opportunities.
  • Coordinate resources across product development, sales, marketing, manufacturing, and value chain operations.
  • Oversee project progress and costs, communicate status with stakeholders, and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Direct project staffing, motivate team members, and support their development. Translate business needs into actionable testing and validation plans.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Apply continuous improvement strategies to enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Guide technical troubleshooting, product design, and requirements analysis.
  • Monitor and report program performance metrics to senior leadership.
  • Champion project management methodologies and cross-functional collaboration.


Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or Materials Science from an accredited institution. Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic Engineering preferred.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Product Design & Development: Extensive product design experience with leadership of cross-functional teams to develop and execute new product strategies.
  • Project Management: Manages high-risk, multi-stakeholder projects and builds cross-functional teams. Known for conflict resolution, coaching, and leading through ambiguity with a positive, accountable mindset.
  • Technical Excellence: Extensive experience resolving complex technical challenges and mentoring others.
  • Requirements Analysis: Oversees comprehensive requirements gathering and documentation using advanced tools and techniques, ensuring alignment with customer needs and product goals.
  • Team Management: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and foster collaboration. Experience in an indirect leadership role such as Supervisor/Manager, Team Lead, or Black Belt.
  • Influencing Through Expertise: Communicates complex concepts clearly, serves as a trusted advisor, and leverages a strong internal network to navigate complex organizational structures.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Resolves high-impact technical issues using advanced diagnostics and mentors others in troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
  • Products & Services Knowledge: Applies or has ability to quickly develop a deep understanding of Caterpillar's product groups to diverse situations, ensuring alignment with regulatory and market needs through direct customer interaction and operational insight.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading engineering programs in a heavy manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Experience working with L6 machine-level design teams
  • Experience with BIQ process and collaboration with Manufacturing and component suppliers (IF & PF)
  • Proven success implementing product development frameworks and technical solutions.
  • Familiarity with global regulatory and environmental standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of CRM systems, mobile application development, and value chain optimization.
  • Understanding of sustainability principles and continuous improvement methodologies.


Additional Information:

The primary location for this position is Tucson, AZ, or Decatur, IL.

Domestic relocation assistance is available.

This position may require 15 % travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
