This Senior Engineer role independently performs a wide range of environmental engineering tasks associated with the analysis, planning, and development of solutions that promote environmental protection, water sustainability, and responsible resource management. Working with limited supervision, this role delivers technical work that improves environmental and public health outcomes across natural and engineered systems. This position addresses environmental and public health protection, mitigation, and prevention of degradation of water, soils, air quality, and habitats. This role may support multiple practice areas including water and wastewater treatment and conveyance, stormwater management, solid and hazardous waste management, and related disciplines. This role independently conducts analysis, modeling, and design of systems and produces engineering deliverables including reports, plans, specifications, and recommendations.
While you will have the opportunity to work on other projects and disciplines, this position assumes at least 50% of your time will be devoted to thickening and dewatering projects. This is part of an intentional effort to fast track the growth of thickening and dewatering specialists into the next generation of subject matter experts at BC. This will be accomplished by pairing you on strategic thickening and dewatering projects/pursuits with BC's subject matter experts.
In this new role, you will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior technical staff on thickening and dewatering projects across the country. The successful candidate will assist in growing BC's Solids specialty and lead teams to deliver exceptional service to our municipal and private-sector clients. In this role, you will support business development, lead execution of high-quality solutions, develop talent, and create and enforce standards to drive our technical differentiation from that of our competitors in the technical areas of thickening, dewatering, and conveyance of thickened sludge and dewatered cake.
Remote work from the continental U.S. is allowed; preferred location would be near one of our offices in the Western U.S.
Responsibilities- Independently perform technical analyses and evaluate sustainable environmental engineering solutions.
- Prepare, review, and finalize technical reports, calculations, and design documentation.
- Design environmental protection systems and infrastructure in accordance with regulatory and project requirement.
- Develop facility, watershed, or resource management plans with defined scopes and objectives.
Analyze complex data sets and ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance of deliverables. - Provide technical support for permitting, regulatory approvals, and coordination with vendors and stakeholders.
- Support project execution through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
Mentorship- May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.
Skills and Competencies- Proficient knowledge of environmental engineering principles, methods, and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage assigned tasks independently and meet project deadlines.
- Clear and effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience- Typically, a minimum of 5 years of related work experience in Environmental Engineering or related field.
- Experience in preparation of plans and permit applications for environmental projects.
- Prior experience in guidance and development of less experienced colleagues.
- Typically certified in the SMS Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies.
Preferred Experience- 6 - 10 years of increasing responsibility in related thickening/dewatering experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the planning, design and construction of thickening and/or dewatering projects.
- Task design lead experience.
- Experience designing thickening and dewatering projects and preparing construction documents including drawings, P&IDs, specifications, control narratives, technical memoranda, etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and prepare written reports and documents.
- Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.
- Strong project or task management skills.
- Successful marketing, proposal writing, proposal management, and public presentations experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint.
Education- A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or related field is required.
- Has achieved or is working towards achieving professional license.
Preferred Education - M.S. degree in Civil, Chemical, Sanitary, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Location A: $95,000 - $129,000
Location B: $104,000 - $142,000
Location C: $114,000 - $155,000
