About The Role

As a Substation Engineer, you will be a key member of our engineering team, specializing in the design, development, and maintenance of electrical substations. This role requires a strong technical background in power systems, substation design, and an understanding of industry standards. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning and execution of substation projects, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of electrical substations, including layout, equipment specification, and system design.
  • Develop detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications for substation components.
  • Specify substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and protective relays, considering technical requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to evaluate vendor proposals and select optimal equipment suppliers.
  • Protection and Control Systems:
  • Design and implement Protection and Control (P&C) systems for substations.
  • Conduct relay coordination studies and ensure protective relays are set up to safeguard electrical equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay informed about local, state, and federal regulations related to substation design and operation.
  • Ensure that substation projects comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Project Management:
  • Manage and oversee substation projects from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, construction teams, and regulatory agencies.
  • Testing and Commissioning
  • Oversee the testing and commissioning of substation equipment, ensuring proper functionality and compliance with project specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during the commissioning phase.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation, including project reports, equipment manuals, and as-built drawings.
  • Maintain accurate records of design changes, equipment specifications, and project timelines.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 8-10 years of engineering experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical leadership, engineering quality, and complex problem solving.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, applicable codes, client standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, mentoring, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record.
  • Experience leading QA/QC programs and technical review processes.
  • Experience supporting complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Project management experience and client-facing leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience developing engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
