Senior Engineer, Planning, Design & Construction

Job Overview

Provide project management, design, design review, administrative, and engineering field support for projects primarily infrastructure based or with a large portion of work which is mechanical, plumbing, electrical or related in scope. Review others engineering work as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Solicit, retain and manage consulting Engineering firms to oversee design with end users, production of permit and bid documents, procurement of construction services, oversee construction, move manage, and readily resolve warranty period issues on projects of complex scope.
  • Manage budget control, contract negotiation and execution of construction/material procurement. Plan and administer capital improvement projects of varied scope and scale. Review and analyze project cost data and other numeric data.
  • Responsible for successfully completing assigned tasks on time and budget including assisting in the preparation, development, monitoring and maintaining project schedules and resources for capital and renovation projects.
  • Provide field supervision, construction management, contract compliance and client and contractor project coordination.
  • Implement plans and specifications and monitor work progress to ensure compliance with all standards. Review design documents for compliance with building codes, ADA,and OSHA standards. Review daily on-site field operations for compliance with the approved plan.
  • Perform a variety of complex engineering work. Consult with administrator to determine functional requirements for projects.
  • Provide expertise in conceptual design and construction implementation of highly complex systems.
  • Review the work of both renovations and capital improvement projects to ensure compliance with university standards.
  • Assess the work of other engineering staff and supports the University Engineer and Director of Project Management in evaluations and other staff work.
  • Review change order cost estimates and expenditures against approved project budgets.
  • Accomplish acute awareness to safety in the workplace in relation to both design and construction.
  • May coordinate work of engineers, architects, planners, and other support staff. Serve as mentor and as a technical credible role model to junior staff and other staff within the department.
  • Update assigned sections of MEP design standards, equipment and system matrix and document site as-builts.
  • Develop conceptual design, estimating and programming of assigned MEP capital improvement projects.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Engineering Technology or related degree.
  • Eleven (11) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.


Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Registration as a professional engineer or capable of being licensed to practice engineering in the State of Ohio.


Required Experience

  • Seven (7) years of related experience.

Salary/Hourly Pay Rate Information: $90,800 - $102,165 annually dependent on candidate experience.
