Senior Engineer - Integration & API Architecture
Duration: Through January 2027
Location: Remote (United States)
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Engineer - Integration & API Architecture to lead enterprise integration strategy, API enablement, and architectural governance across multiple high-impact initiatives. This is a senior staff-level opportunity for a hands-on technical leader who thrives in fast-moving environments, operates with a high degree of autonomy, and brings the experience to define structure, establish standards, and drive execution.
This individual will play a critical role in shaping modern integration capabilities, designing scalable API ecosystems, and enabling secure, resilient data exchange across enterprise platforms.
Key Responsibilities
• Own and lead the API and integration intake lifecycle, driving intake, prioritization, architecture alignment, and execution across multiple concurrent initiatives
• Establish and govern enterprise-wide API standards, including REST and event-driven contract design and integration best practices
• Design and implement secure integration boundaries and data protection controls, including tokenization strategies to safeguard sensitive information across environments
• Define and operationalize scalable integration architectures spanning synchronous APIs, asynchronous messaging, and event-driven patterns
• Configure, optimize, and govern API gateway and integration orchestration platforms to support secure and scalable service delivery
• Architect and support event streaming and messaging solutions leveraging Kafka, AWS MSK, or comparable technologies
• Contribute to durable workflow orchestration patterns and distributed execution frameworks
• Partner closely with data architecture teams to ensure API contracts align with enterprise data standards and canonical models
• Serve as a technical leader and strategic advisor, removing delivery blockers and translating architecture into practical implementation outcomes
• Drive engineering excellence through reusable patterns, governance frameworks, and scalable integration practices
Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated success designing and implementing enterprise-scale integration and API ecosystems
• Deep expertise in API architecture, governance, and contract design across REST and asynchronous/event-driven paradigms
• Strong experience with API gateway technologies including policy management, access control, security enforcement, and rate limiting
• Hands-on experience with integration orchestration and iPaaS platforms; experience with platforms such as Gravitee, Workato, MuleSoft, Apigee, or similar environments is highly valued
• Advanced knowledge of authentication and authorization frameworks including OAuth2 and OpenID Connect
• Experience implementing enterprise data protection controls including tokenization or equivalent sensitive data protection approaches
• Strong expertise in event-driven architecture and distributed integration patterns using Kafka, AWS MSK, or comparable technologies
• Ability to establish architecture standards and execution models in evolving environments with minimal oversight
• Proven track record delivering production-ready solutions and applying practical lessons learned from large-scale implementations
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with durable workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal or similar frameworks
• Exposure to enterprise canonical data models, logical data modeling, or master data management concepts
• Familiarity with emerging AI orchestration patterns, agent-based workflows, or intelligent automation frameworks
• Experience influencing architecture direction across cross-functional engineering and platform teams
