ABOUT THE ROLEWe are seeking a
Senior EMC Design and Compliance Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Design team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, and materials design teams, as well as corporate compliance groups and third-party laboratories. The ideal candidate will review system-level electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements, design robust pre-compliance and compliance test plans, and independently execute and supervise EMC testing - including travel to HQ and third-party labs to oversee test campaigns. Strong consideration will be given to candidates equally well-versed in EMC design able to review circuit schematics, advise on PCB component selection, guide PCB stack-ups/floorplans, and analyze CAD designs for optimized electromagnetic performance.
Key Responsibilities- Define product, module and interface-level EMC requirements and develop pre-compliance and compliance test strategies.
- Own and operate the local EMC lab; plan, execute, supervise, and troubleshoot EMC testing (MIL-STD-461 RE102/RS103, MIL-STD-464C field-level requirements) at third-party labs and internal facilities
- Evaluate test data, correlate emission failures with clock/data harmonics or other root causes using measurement and simulation data and implement effective design countermeasures.
- Communicate findings and design trade-offs clearly to internal stakeholders and external suppliers, including negotiating design changes and schedules when EMC issues are found late in development.
- Plus: Review schematics, CAD designs, cable terminations, and PCB/flex layouts for EMC risk, including signal integrity and impedance trade-offs; Provide technical guidance on PCB component selection, floor planning, stack-ups, shielding, and grounding/bonding strategies for housings and fasteners.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a clearance.
Required Qualifications- Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464 EMC test methods and requirements
- Experience with radiated and conducted emissions/immunity testing, from pre-compliance through full compliance campaigns
- Hands-on experience with EMC test equipment - EMI receivers, signal generators, power amplifiers, LISNs, current probes, and antennas
- Experience managing or maintaining an EMC test lab, including equipment calibration and test capability planning
- Working knowledge of PCB layout, stack-up, and flex circuit design as it relates to EMC and signal integrity
- Familiarity with shielding materials, conductive/non-conductive coatings, and grounding/bonding practices, including galvanic corrosion considerations
- Willingness to travel to third-party labs to supervise and support test campaigns
- Strong root-cause analysis skills and the ability to communicate findings across engineering disciplines
- Simulation (Plus): experience with EM simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, Altair FEKO, or CST Studio Suite
