Senior Embedded Software Engineer - Medical Devices

Location: McHenry, IL (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)

Salary starting at $125,000 with bonus potential

This is a hands-on senior embedded software engineering role for an engineer who has experience developing complex software for medical devices and electromechanical systems. You will serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert while helping guide software architecture, development, integration, verification, and best practices across the engineering team.

This is NOT a general software, web, or application development position.

We are specifically seeking candidates with 6+ years of experience designing and implementing complex embedded software for medical devices.

What You'll Do
  • Develop embedded software for medical devices using C, C++, and Python
  • Serve as a technical expert for key embedded software features
  • Translate product requirements into software requirements, architecture, and implementation
  • Integrate software with microprocessor-based hardware and electromechanical systems
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers on hardware/software integration
  • Conduct code reviews and promote software development best practices
  • Develop and support unit, integration, system, and automated testing
  • Support CI/CD, verification, validation, requirements, and traceability
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues using hardware and laboratory debugging tools
  • Provide technical guidance and feedback to other software engineers
  • Work collaboratively with global, cross-functional engineering teams


Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional embedded software development experience

  • Experience with microprocessors, RTOS, and embedded systems

  • Understanding of the medical device software lifecycle, design controls, verification, and traceability
  • Knowledge of medical device standards such as IEC 62304 and ISO 14971
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with STM development environments or TouchGFX
  • Experience with Altium or schematic review
  • Experience with Bash, PowerShell, or YAML
  • Experience working with global product development teams
