Full Job Description
Summary:

The Sr. EH&S Hazardous Waste Technician will have responsibility for the performance of tasks associated with the collection and safe/compliant handling of hazardous waste materials and management of biomedical waste at Vaxcyte's headquarters facility and local offsite laboratory locations. This position is designed to incorporate day-to-day compliance responsibilities with other strategic opportunities for growth in support of broader EHS initiatives. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who works well with cross-functional teams under minimal supervision. The candidate must demonstrate a dedication to organizational objectives and a conscientiousness in their work.
Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrates compliance with Vaxcyte's values and exercises sound professional judgement.
  • Manage compliance for all hazardous waste management, including conducting inspections, managing labeling, establishing waste profiles, scheduling timely waste pickups, overseeing lab packs, ensures compliance. recordkeeping/documentation practices and other compliance items as necessary.
  • Coordinates hazardous waste profiling/testing.
  • Selects and dons appropriate personal protective equipment as needed: uniform, lab coat, chemical-resistant coverall, safety glasses, gloves, full-face air purifying respirator.
  • Advises personnel on regulatory requirements for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Biomedical waste program management.
  • Escorts EHS vendors as required.
  • As part of the Emergency Response Team, acts as first responder and assists in investigations of workplace incidents, near misses, and environmental events; documents findings and corrective actions.
  • Review and maintain SDS database and site chemical inventories.
  • Supports EHS management in the gathering of data for the establishment of report metrics pertinent to EHS activities.
  • Prepares and readies hazardous waste for transport both onsite at company facility and at offsite laboratories.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years hazardous waste management and general knowledge of EHS programs required. Other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Ability to use Microsoft programs, including word, excel, PowerPoint and willing and able to learn new software for EHS Management.
  • May require after-hours support and limited spill clean-up and may require on-call coverage.
  • Ability to move full 55-gal drums with manual drum dolly.
  • Ability to obtain medical clearance and wear a respirator.
  • Valid CA driver's license with clean motor vehicle record and access to personal vehicle for travel to offsite facilities. Milage can be expensed per the Vaxcyte Travel and Expense Policy.

Reports to: Director, EH&S

Location: San Carlos, CA

Work Arrangement: Onsite (5 days per week required)

Compensation:

The compensation package will be competitive and includes comprehensive benefits and an equity component.

Salary Range: $102,000 - $119,000 (SF Bay Area). Salary ranges for non-California locations may vary.
