Typical Accountabilities
- Manage an entire area of scientific or safety responsibility (such as Safety Assessment, Pharmacology, or Patient Safety) globally or serves as the senior expert in one or more specialist areas.
- Develop, or use expertise to support the development of, strategies and objectives for the function in their area of responsibility, ensuring that these are aligned with broader AstraZeneca goals and objectives.
- May act as the most senior expert resource in one or more specialist domains for the country or region.
- Maintain a high degree of understanding and awareness of internal and external developments impacting the function and the broader Research and Development or drug development context, sharing relevant insights with team members as appropriate.
- Build networks with other teams and external stakeholders, including representing the department where relevant, to learn about new developments, leverage collaborative opportunities, and share best practices.
- May performance manage a senior management team: setting goals and objectives, providing development opportunities, and carrying out effective succession planning.
- May manage or support complex and cutting-edge projects to improve processes within the function or to develop and introduce new technologies and approaches at national, regional, or global level.
- Ensure that their own work—and that of their team or function—is compliant with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) standards, and all other relevant internal and external regulations and standards.

Qualifications and Skills
Essential: Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant scientific discipline; Extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry in a relevant specialist area (such as Patient Safety, Clinical Pharmacology, or Safety Assessment); Excellent communication skills; Project management experience; Knowledge of relevant legislation and current developments in the pharmaceutical industry.
Desirable: PhD or other advanced degrees in a relevant scientific discipline and/or professional certification; Recognized expert reputation within the business, industry, or commercial academic alliance environment; Extensive knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory expectations and developments.
