Summary:
The Senior Director of Accounting provides organization-wide leadership, governance, and strategic direction for ANTHC's accounting and related financial operations. The position is accountable for the integrity of consolidated financial reporting; accounting policy and technical guidance; internal controls; financial close; audit and tax compliance; and the governance, compliance, and financial integrity of accounts payable, payroll, and related financial operations. This role involves strategic planning, policy development, risk management, financial reporting, and leadership within the department; and collaborates with senior management and external stakeholders to support decision-making, improve processes, and maintain financial integrity.
The position provides functional leadership to accounting and financial leaders and establishes system wide accounting standards, policies, controls, and practices across ANTHC. The Senior Director serves as a senior accounting and financial advisor to the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), executive leadership, and other organizational leaders on complex accounting, financial reporting, risk, compliance, and strategic financial matters.
The Senior Director leads accounting transformation and process improvement initiatives, including automation, standardization, system optimization, and redesign of financial processes to improve efficiency, internal controls, data integrity, and service delivery. The position collaborates with senior management, other departments, external auditors, tax advisors, professional advisors, agencies, partners, and other external stakeholders to support organizational decision-making and maintain financial integrity.
Responsibilities:
Plans, organizes, and directs general ledger accounting functions and provides functional leadership and oversight to accounting and financial leadership across the organization, including collaboration with divisional CFOs, financial planning and analysis, divisional controllers, grants leadership, and other finance leaders to ensure consistent application of accounting policies, financial controls, reporting standards, and organizational objectives.
Partners with the CAO to establish and execute the strategic vision for ANTHC's accounting functions and provides leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of accounting policies, procedures, standards, and practices.
Provides organization-wide accounting and financial governance by establishing accounting standards, policies, controls, reporting expectations, reconciliation requirements, financial close expectations, and financial practices applicable across ANTHC
Maintains organizational accountability for the integrity, accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of ANTHC's consolidated financial reporting. Establishes appropriate accounting controls, reporting standards, reconciliation requirements, financial close processes, and review procedures necessary to ensure reliable and timely financial information.
Ensures the integrity of accounting data produced by ANTHC's enterprise resource planning financial system, including appropriate review of accounting coding, monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, and evaluation of estimates used for month-end reporting.
Ensures compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IRS regulations applicable to tax-exempt organizations, Uniform Guidance requirements, applicable payroll regulations, contractual requirements, and other financial and regulatory requirements.
Provides executive oversight of internal controls within the CFO Division and collaborates with Compliance and other organizational divisions on organization-wide internal controls, audits, risk management, and remediation activities. Identifies and mitigates financial risks and ensures timely resolution of control deficiencies and audit findings.
Provides executive accountability for the timely and accurate completion of ANTHC's external audit and IRS Form 990 processes. Coordinates with external auditors, tax preparers, advisors, and other professional service providers and serves as a primary accounting liaison to ensure effective communication, resolution of issues, and timely completion of required activities.
Provides leadership in responding to audit findings, developing management responses, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring timely remediation of identified deficiencies.
Provides executive functional leadership for financial systems supporting accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and accounts payable. Establishes business requirements, evaluates proposed system enhancements, oversees system implementations and optimization, and ensures system functionality, data integrity, internal controls, and reporting capabilities support organizational needs.
Leads organization-wide accounting transformation and process improvement initiatives, including automation, standardization, system optimization, and redesign of financial processes to improve operational efficiency, internal controls, data integrity, and service delivery.
Provides accounting leadership and technical guidance during the annual organizational budgeting process and ensures alignment between budget development, accounting practices, financial reporting, and organizational objectives.
Develops and communicates technical accounting guidance on complex accounting, tax, financial, and regulatory matters, including researching and applying authoritative accounting literature to practical situations and preparing technical accounting memoranda, policies, and guidance as needed.
Stays informed of changes in accounting regulations, tax requirements, financial reporting standards, technology, and industry best practices and evaluates appropriate actions to maintain compliance and support continuous improvement.
Provides executive leadership and oversight of accounting functions through subordinate directors, managers, and other financial leaders. Establishes goals and priorities, assigns responsibilities and projects, develops staff skills and training plans, and provides coaching, counseling, and performance feedback.
Supports the development of accounting and financial leadership capabilities and promotes consistent practices, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Represents ANTHC in external contacts with partners, agencies, outside counsel, auditors, tax advisors, and other professional stakeholders as required. Supports ANTHC leadership in developing and achieving current and long-range organizational goals and objectives.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or related field required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory - Ten (10) years progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience within not-for-profit healthcare finance or public accounting providing financial/accounting consulting services to complex healthcare or nonprofit organizations.
TO INCLUDE
Supervisory - Seven (7) years of employee supervision while in healthcare finance or public accounting.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATION
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - active or inactive status
PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or Masters of Accounting (MAcc) is preferred.
