Job Description:

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Senior Director of Operations for our A320 Final Assembly Line based in Mobile, AL.

As Senior Director, you will lead the operations team and associated support functions in a Multi Functional Team (MFT) for Single Aisle/A320 Family program from Station 42 to Gauging. Lead a team of 200 blue collar operators and 75 support functions (MFT) to complete the production plan of 7 Aircraft per month and to deliver defined work packages on time, on quality and on cost while maintaining a Safe, Positive and Productive work environment.

Your Challenges:

Lead / Manage
  • Lead and manage the Operations teams for Station 42, 41, 40, 35, 25, 23 and Gauging.
  • Actively lead, implement, and continuously improve the routines and standards according to the Airbus Operating System (AOS).
  • Manage and set priorities for Multi-Functional Teams to ensure aligned support. Provide strategic direction and oversight to production activities of the stations assigned.
  • Ensure fulfillment of legal and airworthiness requirements. Maintain demonstrated compliance of the POA.
  • Analyze CNQ data to identify root cause(s) and eliminate human factor, quality defects that occur in the manufacturing/assembly process. Continuously improve and reinforce a quality culture within the assigned area.
  • Role model, follow and promote the Airbus Values of the Mobile site Safe, Positive, Productive initiative.
  • Manage departmental budgets/costs in accordance with AOP objective
  • Lead transformation and continuous improvement initiatives the takted flowline.

Safe
  • Act as a role model and ensure Safety is a priority, ensure all PeopleSafety[redacted] golden rules are maintained.
  • Ensure all relevant EH&S policies and procedures are implemented. Ensure processes are confirmed in compliance.
  • Ensure Aircraft Safety by acting as a role model and maintaining adherence to relevant FOD prevention policy.

Positive
  • Contribute to enhancing the corporate image by ensuring FAL environment standards are high and continuously improved.
  • Establish expectations for high levels of flexibility and "multiple skills" requirements for the workplace and management during start up and into general operations.
  • Lead activities to ensure team members remain motivated and engaged.
  • Proactively identify and resolve problems to prevent disagreements and encourage harmonious work relationships. Engage with the MFT to improve work flow and enhance existing processes.

Productive
  • Ensure delivery of defined work packages on time, on quality and cost.
  • Drive actions and improvements to ensure successful completion of E2E Quality Gates.
  • Ensure Daily performance by ensuring Standard Line Balancing (SLB), Production Pace Control (PPC), SQCDP, Quality Gate (QG) and Practical Problem Solving (PPS) are all used to the required maturity level.
  • Responsible for the development of staff forecast requirements based on line balancing, activity sequencing and identifying the necessary skills required to achieve committed build.
  • Responsible for identifying, preventing and eliminating disruptions in the manufacturing process.
  • Manage cost center to ensure achievement of the planned budgets, including achieving increases in productivity.


Additional responsibilities:
  • Develop short and mid term resource planning scenarios in conjunction with site planning teams.
  • Run Daily L3 review for area of accountability and report at daily A320 L4 the health of the business.
  • Develop dynamic plans to ensure On time and On Quality delivery of finished work packages to internal customers at Quality Gate Meeting.
  • Ensure Problem Solving is launched and completed for repeat Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People issues.
  • Manage integrated Multi Functional Team to deliver priorities and work with functional directors to ensure correct support is in place.
  • Report out to Single Aisle Head of FAL Leadership regarding the health of business on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for the complete manufacture and Assembly work package for Station 42 through to Gauging.
  • Manage work package of 2500 hours per aircraft.
  • Manage complex product mix of A320, A321 and A321 ACF.
  • Accountable leader for Health and Safety for manufacturing footprint of ~150,000 sq feet of facility and 300 employees.
  • Responsible for developing and managing a yearly budget of $8-10M.
  • Leading transformation process of the A320 line and preparing for future ramp up opportunities.
  • Build and Utilize European Airbus network to support daily and strategic site initiatives.


Your Boarding Pass:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Quality Management or Aerospace Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in aviation required, with 5 years' of experience in managing and leading in an aviation production environment.
  • Leadership experience of Continuous Improvement in aviation is also required.
  • Knowledge of Production and Quality rules in aviation.


Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
  • Required:
    • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Preferred:
    • Fluency in another language (French, German, and Spanish) is highly desirable

  • Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification in office settings and on the production floor.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment. Familiarity with most production equipment and able to operate many tools.
  • Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 30lbs/13kg while engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
  • Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 30lbs/9kg.
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.
  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time delivering information and observing production activities.
  • Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time and on short notice.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
  • Heights: able to function at heights up to 40 feet. Able to operate moving platforms, hydraulic lifts and forklifts.
