Senior DevOps Engineer (AWS) (Onsite)

About the role

As a Senior DevOps Engineer (AWS), you will make an impact by designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud-native CI/CD solutions that enable rapid, secure, and reliable application delivery. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with developers, architects, product owners, and infrastructure stakeholders to support mission-critical delivery initiatives across AWS environments.

In this role, you will:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Pipeline as Code (PaC) practices.
  • Automate application deployment, infrastructure provisioning, and operational processes across AWS cloud environments.
  • Develop and maintain CloudFormation templates, YAML, and JSON configurations to support infrastructure deployment and management.
  • Integrate security and quality controls into delivery pipelines using tools such as SonarQube, Fortify, Nexus, and related scanning technologies.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions using AWS CloudWatch, AppDynamics, and related operational tools.
  • Create and maintain automation scripts using Groovy and Python to improve deployment efficiency and operational reliability.
  • Collaborate within Agile teams operating in two-week sprint cycles to deliver high-priority business initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex deployment, infrastructure, and application delivery challenges in fast-paced enterprise environments.

Work model

Based on this role's business requirements, this is an onsite position requiring 5 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Mclean, VA.

What you need to have to be considered
  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or related infrastructure automation roles.
  • Hands-on experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Pipeline as Code methodologies.
  • Strong experience deploying and managing solutions within AWS, including ECS Fargate, EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, and Route 53.
  • Proven expertise with AWS CloudFormation and infrastructure-as-code concepts using YAML and JSON.
  • Experience integrating security, code quality, and artifact management tools, including SonarQube, Fortify, Nexus, and JFrog Artifactory.
  • Strong scripting and automation experience using Groovy and Python.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, alerting, and operational observability using CloudWatch, AppDynamics, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly assess, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical challenges with minimal supervision in large-scale enterprise environments.

These will help you stand out
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD and related DevOps tooling.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and infrastructure automation best practices.
  • Broad knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native architecture patterns.
  • Application development experience using Java, Spring Boot, or other full-stack technologies.
  • Experience modernizing deployment processes and driving DevOps transformation initiatives.

Salary and Other Compensation:

Applications will be accepted until September 21 th , 2026.

The annual salary for this position is between $ 81,337, 000 to $ 141,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
