Role Definition

The Large Power Systems Division is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join the Turbocharger Application team, located in either Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL. In this role, you will provide critical support for NPI, CPI, factory support, and cost reduction initiatives for LPSD engines. You will collaborate closely with the engine platform and application teams, performance teams, and external suppliers to define program requirements and develop effective solutions.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with LPSD Platform and application teams on program requirements

  • Present in component and program level design reviews and gateways

  • Utilize APQP to collaborate with suppliers; optimizing designs to meet performance, reliability, durability, and cost targets

  • Direct the work of off-site engineering groups providing analysis, and detailing services

  • Complete design FMEA’s and develop validation requirements for new and improved designs

  • Create product validation plans and lead execution of these plans

  • Assist in teardown/inspection of turbochargers being used in validation or returned from a customer

Degree Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree related to Engineering/Technology required

What you will have:

Product Design and Development: Extensive knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
Analytical Thinking: Extensive knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Effective Communications: Extensive understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Managing Multiple Priorities: Extensive knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology, or similar

  • Deep expertise in Caterpillar engine products, applications

  • Deep expertise in Gas or Diesel Performance Engineering

  • Deep expertise in Caterpillar programs and processes (NPI, CPI, NTI, Teamcenter)

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location,job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
