The Senior Demand Planner owns demand accuracy and integrity across the S&OP process. This person is the primary demand-side point of contact for S&OP communications with the sales organization and is accountable for the statistical forecast, forecast adjustments, and other demand drivers, most notably safety stock, that feed the monthly S&OP cycle.
Responsibilities- Own and lead all demand-side S&OP communication with sales: run the monthly demand review, publish the consensus forecast, and explain forecast changes and risks to sales and executive leadership.
- Build and maintain the statistical baseline forecast at the appropriate level (SKU/customer/region), applying time-series and other quantitative methods, and layer in sales/marketing input to produce a consensus demand plan.
- Own forecast accuracy and bias measurement (e.g., MAPE, bias) and drive root-cause analysis and corrective action when performance slips.
- Set and maintain safety stock and other demand-side planning parameters that protect service levels without over-investing in inventory.
- Own demand sensing for new product introductions, promotions, and other demand shaping events.
- Ensure all demand data in the planning system (forecasts, overrides, safety stock, master data) is accurate and current.
- Partner with the Senior Supply Planner and operations leadership to ensure the demand plan is realistic, communicated in time, and reconciled against supply constraints.
- Present the demand plan and key assumptions each month as part of the executive S&OP cycle.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, statistics, data science, applied math, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in demand planning or forecasting, with demonstrated ownership of forecasting within a formal S&OP or IBP process.
- A track record of having built and executed a successful S&OP demand plan in a prior role - not just exposure to the process.
- Extensive, hands-on experience in forecasting and related quantitative disciplines: statistics, time-series methods, and data science techniques.
- Strong data skills: advanced Excel and SQL required; experience with a demand planning/forecasting platform (e.g., SAP IBP, Kinaxis, o9, Blue Yonder) and, ideally, Python or R for forecast modeling.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain forecast assumptions, changes, and risk to sales and executive stakeholders in plain terms.
Preferred Qualifications- APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP).
- Experience with statistical or machine-learning-based forecasting tools.
- Industry experience in manufacturing, distribution, or CPG.
