Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Senior Database Geologist to join our Energy and Resources Canada West team. This position requires an individual with strong data management experience and proven technical capabilities to support our industrial and mining sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating, managing, and optimizing large geological datasets to support our team responsible for resource-reserve estimation, mining engineering, hydrogeology, mine planning, mineral processing, and financial analysis. We are looking for someone to participate in multi-disciplinary team projects, who can lead projects in your area of expertise, and is willing to assist with business development of existing and new clients. Our offices are uniquely situated with a strong team of mining professionals and great growth potential.

Your Key Responsibilities

Working under the direction of the Geoscience Manager, you will:
  • Design, build and maintain geological databases using systems such as Microsoft Access, SQL-based platforms, AcQuire, or similar tools
  • Manage large and complex databases, implementing data acquisition, validation and QA/QC protocols
  • Analyze and interpret data using database and GIS programs such as Microsoft Access, Excel, MinePlan, ArcGIS, MapInfo, Torque or similar packages
  • Build geologic models using software programs such as MinePlan, Leapfrog, Vulcan, Geologist or similar packages
  • Author independent technical reports as Qualified Person (NI43-101) or Competent Person (JORC) once having obtained the necessary experience and qualification
  • Assist in business development with new and existing clients

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong proficiency in database management and designs platforms such as Microsoft Access/SQL databases or similar tools.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in managing large, complex databases and ensuring data integrity across project lifecycles
  • Diverse background in exploration and mining projects, with focus in database management, field exploration, geologic modeling, and resource estimation.
  • Attention to detail and strong QA/QC skills
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • A broad understanding of the independent reporting requirements under NI43-101, JORC and SEC SK-1300
  • Exceptional organizational, technical, leadership, and communication skills
  • Understanding of project related risks
  • Ability to develop a strong network in the local and national marketplace
  • Willingness to work and travel to remote locations for short periods (e.g. two weeks)
  • Registered as professional geologist with an accredited association

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology with preference given to those holding a M.Sc. degree
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant experience
  • P.Geo. or QP designation is preferred

Pay Range:
• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$96,800.00 - $145,200.00 Annually
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$102,600.00 - $153,900.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
