Position Summary...What you'll do...Senior Data Scientist - Decision SciencesWe are looking for a
Senior Data Scientist to join Decision Sciences team. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be responsible for modeling complex business problems and discovering insights through machine learning, statistical modeling, simulation, and optimization that empower our customers across Walmart to make data-driven decisions. You will drive data science partnership across US, Costa Rica, and India locations. You will be tasked to set goals, create a strategy, and closely collaborate with Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Data Governance teams and business stakeholders to deliver best-in-class analytical tools and solutions.
What You'll Do
- Forecasting & Predictive Modeling: Develop and implement forecasting models using statistical modeling, machine learning, and time-series techniques to support operational and strategic decision-making across Supply Chain networks.
- Feature Engineering & Model Improvement: Engineer meaningful and explainable features using business understanding and domain knowledge to improve forecasting accuracy, model performance, and scalability.
- Data Engineering: Extract, preprocess, clean, and validate large-scale structured and unstructured datasets from multiple internal and external data sources using SQL, Python, Spark, and cloud-based technologies.
- Experimentation & Validation: Design, evaluate, and monitor model performance using statistical validation techniques, back-testing methodologies, and experimentation frameworks to ensure reliability and business impact.
- Machine Learning Operations (MLOps): Deploying and maintaining machine learning models in production environments, ensuring reliability and scalability.
- Collaboration: Working closely with data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, product, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Communication: Engaging in effective communication with business stakeholders regarding model insights and the strategic importance of advanced analytics.
- Mentorship: Support and mentor junior associates by providing guidance on analytical approaches, problem-solving techniques, and storytelling best practices.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience applying advanced analytics, forecasting, machine learning, or statistical modeling techniques to solve complex business problems.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing advanced data science models and leading data-driven projects from conception to implementation, driving and influencing project roadmaps.
- Strong ability to translate business problems into causal frameworks and estimate impact
- Demonstrated experience developing and deploying forecasting or predictive models using statistical and machine learning methodologies.
- Proficient coding in one or more languages: Java, C++, Python, Spark, Scala, or R
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying. Proficient with data warehouse like BigQuery and cloud platforms (GCP, Azure).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to frame ambiguous business problems into scalable analytical solutions.
- Experience leveraging data visualization and storytelling techniques to communicate insights and influence decision-making.
- Experience in MLOps and deploying/managing machine learning models.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and innovatively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring junior operations research or machine learning scientists.
