Overview

We are currently seeking a Senior Data Manager/REDCap programmer who, in collaboration with lead data managers and programmers, will provide both data management and electronic data capture (EDC) programming support for federally-funded and commercially-funded clinical research and epidemiological studies. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes other data managers and programmers, epidemiologists, and operations staff. You will play a critical role in the collection and management of data for these studies by developing databases, workflows, and reports to support the full lifecycle of a study. You will lead the design and implementation of complex REDCap databases, API-based integrations, and automated data management workflows that support clinical research and public health programs. This position is responsible for building scalable data collection systems, streamlining data exchange, and implementing robust quality assurance processes to maximize data integrity. This position offers many opportunities for professional development, innovation, and collaboration across disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Designing and implementing advanced REDCap databases, including longitudinal projects, repeating instruments/events, complex branching logic, calculated fields, piping, and custom workflows to support clinical research and public health studies
  • Developing and maintaining integrations between REDCap and external systems using APIs, including automated imports/exports, ETL processes, scheduling, authentication, and data synchronization with research databases, EDC systems, and reporting platforms
  • Developing automated data validation rules, discrepancy reports, quality assurance processes, and monitoring dashboards to identify missing, inconsistent, or invalid data and improve overall data integrity
  • Operationalizing and documenting data collection workflows according to study protocols
  • Creating and interpreting reports for internal and external study monitoring purposes
  • Conducting QC, validation, and UAT of data collection procedures and systems, developing testing plans, and reviewing findings
  • Evaluating and keeping up to date with new EDC system functionality including APIs and external modules
  • Mentoring junior staff and providing technical guidance on database design, programming techniques, and system capabilities.
  • Ensuring quality by following established standards and procedures
  • Complying with federal regulations, client guidelines, corporate SOPs, and project work instructions related to data management

Qualifications.
  • B.S. degree in computer sciences, health sciences, or other related field; five or more years of experience with leading development of EDC systems (such as REDCap, REDCap Cloud, SurveyCTO, or OpenClinica) which includes administration, design, quality control, and user acceptance testing for collecting, monitoring, and reporting on study data. -OR-
  • M.S. degree in computer sciences, health sciences, or other related field; three or more years of experience with leading development of EDC systems (such as REDCap, REDCap Cloud, SurveyCTO, or OpenClinica) which includes administration, design, quality control, and user acceptance testing for collecting, monitoring, and reporting on study data.
  • Advanced experience building complex longitudinal, multi-arm, multilingual, and survey-based REDCap projects.
  • Experience integrating EDC systems with external systems such as electronic health records (EHRs), laboratory systems, cloud storage, or reporting platforms through APIs or ETL pipelines.
  • Experience designing edit checks, automated validation rules, data cleaning workflows, discrepancy management, and audit processes.
  • Experience managing development, testing, and production environments using documented change control, versioning, and release management practices.
  • Advanced QA/QC and troubleshooting skills related to REDCap configuration, APIs, system performance, and external system integrations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytic and organizational skills, and excellent attention to detail. Able to work well in team environment and independently.
  • Familiarity with clinical research data standards and regulations (e.g., NIH Common Data Elements, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, GCP, or FAIR principles) is highly desirable.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position in accordance with applicable contract and/or customer requirements.
