Reporting to the Manager, Early Stage Customer Management, the Senior Credit Risk Strategist is a subject matter expert responsible for developing, optimizing, and governing credit risk strategies across the customer lifecycle. This role combines advanced analytics, strategic thinking, and business leadership to influence portfolio performance and drive profitable growth. The successful candidate will lead complex risk initiatives, provide strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders, and help shape the future direction of Canadian Tire Bank's credit risk framework.
What you'll do- Lead the design, development, implementation, and optimization of credit risk strategies across customer acquisition, adjudication, credit line management, and early-stage customer management.
- Own portfolio monitoring and performance analysis, identifying emerging risks, opportunities, and trends that impact profitability, credit quality, and customer outcomes.
- Apply advanced analytics, segmentation, forecasting, and decision optimization techniques to improve portfolio performance and drive risk-adjusted growth.
- Translate complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations and influence business decisions through clear, data-driven insights.
- Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Fraud, Marketing, Product, Operations, and Technology to deliver integrated risk management solutions.
- Lead complex cross-functional initiatives from concept through implementation, ensuring alignment with business objectives and risk appetite.
- Support the development and enhancement of risk policies, governance frameworks, and controls while ensuring compliance with regulatory and audit requirements.
- Act as a subject matter expert within Credit Risk, providing leadership, mentorship, and strategic guidance to team members and business partners.
What you bring- University degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Progressive experience in credit risk management, portfolio analytics, decision science, or a related financial services environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and optimizing credit risk strategies within a lending or credit card portfolio is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in SAS, SQL, Excel, and working with large, complex data sets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience applying statistical techniques and data-driven decision-making to business challenges.
- Proven ability to translate complex analytical insights into recommendations that influence stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship management skills, with experience collaborating across diverse business functions.
- Knowledge of credit card portfolio management, risk decision systems (e.g., TSYS, TRIAD, BLAZE), and experience with cloud-based data and AI platforms such as Databricks is considered an asset.
Broadband Salary Range: $64,000 - 106,000
Our typical hiring range is between $80,000 and $95,000. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role-specific requirements.
