Job Description

Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Engineer to support the delivery of large-scale capital construction, renovation, workplace, laboratory, and industrial projects. This role will serve as a key client-facing resource, providing cost management, commercial oversight, and project controls support throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Negotiate change orders and support commercial management activities throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Prepare cost plans, estimates, and budgets, presenting findings and recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Reconcile project cost changes and review contractor pricing to validate accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors, consultants, and client stakeholders to gather project status information and prepare cost reports and forecasts.
  • Review and provide written comments on contractor submissions, cost proposals, and commercial documentation.
  • Coordinate all sources of cost information, including contractor, supplier, consultant, and design team inputs.
  • Support project teams by identifying cost impacts, budget risks, and value improvement opportunities.
  • Work proactively to resolve commercial and project controls issues with minimal supervision.
  • Perform cost validation, cost checking, valuations, and benchmarking activities across multiple projects.
  • Manage change control processes, cost variance reporting, contingency management, and commitment tracking.
  • Prepare funding requests, executive summary reports, and value engineering analyses.
  • Develop cost plans and estimates throughout design and construction phases, updating estimates at key project milestones.
  • Provide commercial input into design reviews, procurement strategies, and value engineering exercises.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor pricing and support commercial negotiations on behalf of the client.
  • Perform quantity surveying, cost controls, and change management activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure cost auditing, cost validation, and financial controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts, and project performance metrics for client review.
  • Support final account negotiations and project closeout activities.
  • Maintain benchmarking databases and historical cost information for future reference.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing.
  • Support financial management activities, including fee forecasting, resource planning, and project performance reporting.
  • Implement and maintain company procedures, tools, and best practices.
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related construction discipline.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in cost engineering, cost management, quantity surveying, project controls, or commercial management within the construction industry.
  • Experience supporting commercial office, corporate real estate, laboratory, research & development, industrial, manufacturing, campus, renovation, or capital improvement projects.
  • Experience leading cost management activities on medium to large-scale construction projects.
  • Construction consultancy, owner's representative, contractor, or project controls experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cost planning, estimating, procurement, change management, value engineering, and commercial controls.
  • Experience preparing cost reports, forecasts, budgets, and final accounts.
  • RICS accreditation or progress toward certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in SAP, EcoSys, Microsoft Excel, and related cost management tools is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders and priorities in a client-facing environment.
