DescriptionUnder the direction of the Senior Manager, Corporate and Investment Accounting, the Senior Corporate and Investment Accountant is responsible for developing a strong understanding of Middleburg Communities' private investing platform, overseeing the performance of our international shared service provider, and executing the day-to-day accounting functions as required. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious and bring an analytical mindset to forecasting, preparing, and analyzing corporate and fund financial packages, as well as, preparing and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and various cash flow analyses. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:General
- Develop a strong understanding of the private investing platform including complex legal entity structures.
- Responsible for interpreting, implementing, and administering accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare and complete corporate financial statement and bank reconciliations accurately and on a timely basis; analyze data, draw conclusions, and recommend changes.
- Oversee the performance of the Company's international shared service accounting team, managing closely the team's outputs, ensuring adherence to its contract, and providing feedback and coaching to team members.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, including (but not limited to) bank reconciliations, capital accounts, and intercompany accounts to determine and address any errors in account balances.
- Serve as the primary contact on areas of responsibility and provide expert matter advice to team members.
- Prepare and process journal entries accurately and timely with the underlying supporting documentation.
- Ensure invoice coding is accurate and payments are accurately applied.
- Prepare and maintain complete, accurate and organized workpapers in accordance with departmental requirements and deadlines.
- Accurately calculate the General Partner, Limited Partner, and Asset Management fees as required by the Company's various investment management agreements.
- Assist in the preparation for and support completion of the annual US GAAP audit work.
- Work closely with tax preparers on annual tax returns and filings.
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures as necessary.
- Assisting in maintaining company expense reimbursement policy & system.
- Handle ad-hoc projects and other duties, as assigned.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Cash Management
- Assist in planning long and short-term business objectives by actively participating in the budget process.
- Design and prepare detailed financial analysis including bespoke data requests.
- Prepare and analyze the Company's periodic cash position report for all Corporate entities.
- Prepare and analyze annual corporate budgets and periodic reforecasts as required.
- Assess corporate performance against budget while understanding and explaining significant variances.
- Initiate and/or review transfers/wires/ACHs and process stop payment on checks as required.
Fund Accounting
- Prepare monthly and quarterly fund and joint venture financials as required by fund or joint venture agreements.
- Assist the Investment and Asset Management teams in the preparation of fund and joint venture
- monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting as required.
- Maintain complete books and records of all fund structures and related legal entities including foreign entities and general partner entities.
RequirementsKnowledge and Experience:- A passion for excellence in customer service delivery.
- Completion of a Bachelor's (or Master's) degree in Business and/or Accounting.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- 3+ years overall experience preferred.
- Proven leadership skills and excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge & experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements, completing bank reconciliations, creating journal entries, and completing other account reconciliations.
- Experience in public accounting or real estate private equity that includes fund and separate account accounting and work with institutional investors is preferred.
