Responsibilities

  • Design control systems for Compressor Stations and Processing Facilities.
  • Develop software for PLC and DCS systems.
  • Assist with on-site commissioning/startup of new facilities.
  • Create and update Controls and Automation Equipment Standards & Specifications.
  • Perform complex technical tasks on control and automation systems.
  • Ensure backups of PLC/HMI programs are properly managed.
  • Clarify work scope with supervisors or clients, ensuring thorough documentation.
  • Conduct FAT testing before system implementation.
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships for project success.
  • Manage documentation for changes affecting operational controls, ensuring written approval prior to application.
  • Diagnose troubleshooting issues in hardware and wiring, often with electrician support.
  • Work with varying pressure levels in process equipment.
  • Follow Health & Safety Manual standards, including PPE compliance.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Full Job Description
  • Role: Senior Control Systems Specialist
  • Location: Calgary or Grande Prairie
  • Shift: Varies based on project
  • Overtime: Project based
  • Pre-Employment Condition: Pre-employment D&A test required


Responsibilities:
  • Compressor Station, and Processing Facility Control System Design.
  • Software Development of PLC and DCS systems.
  • On site commissioning and startup assistance of new facilities.
  • Development of Controls and Automation Equipment Standards & Specifications.
  • Perform complex technical tasks related to control and automation systems.
  • Backups of PLC/HMI program "As found" and Modified files are extremely important.
  • Ascertain a clear scope of work from direct supervisor or client.
  • Perform FAT testing on hardware and software prior to implementation.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders (employees, managers, owners, and clients)
  • Ensure changes that affect the control or the shutdown of operation for a location has approval in writing by an authorized representative prior to the changes being applied. Management of Change (MOC) documentation should be provided.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware and wiring issues.
  • Deal with a variety of voltages, help of an electrician is common practice.
  • Work with pressures in the operation of process equipment.
  • Comply with the standards and safety procedures of the Health & Safety Manual including the use of special PPE where required.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • University degree, college diploma, formal certification in Automation and Robotics or related field and typically 10 or more years of hands-on automation experience in the Oil & Gas industry; or combination of formal education and experience.
  • Must hold all valid safety tickets required under the Health and Safety program.
  • Optional certificates: Electrical/Electronic or Instrument Certification.
  • Experience with control and automation system design of oil and gas facilities.
  • Experience with control and automation systems with high level of experience with Allen Bradley PLC systems, RS Logix and numerous software's.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) applications.
  • Possess the ability to execute control system integration on multiple complex projects with a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Understand complex controls systems and be able to identify potential areas of improvement.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, with experience in Microsoft Projects.
  • Valid class 5 with a clean Drivers Abstract.
  • Current safety tickets required: H2S, First Aid Level C CPR & AED, CSO.
  • Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Testing.
