Position Summary
Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), a global leader in research, teaching, patient care, and innovation, seeks an experienced, highly collaborative organizational develop leader to serve as Senior Consultant, Organizational Development (Senior Consultant). The role offers the opportunity to partner with leaders across the university and medical enterprise to foster a high-performing culture, accelerate leadership development, and drive organizational effectiveness in support of WashU’s tripartite mission.

The Senior Consultant serves as a hands-on practitioner working with academic departments, operating units, and schools to assess organizational needs and design, recommend, and implement talent and performance solutions. They lead initiatives focused on leadership, manager and team effectiveness; organizational design, culture and engagement; and change management. As a subject matter expert, the Senior Consultant applies current practices, tools, and methodologies in these areas as well while providing strategic insight into innovative approaches and solutions to enhance future-focused strategies.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Consults with a continuum of leadership and management to assess, diagnose, design and implement group and organization-wide solution offerings to improve performance. Applies existing or designs custom assessments (qualitative and quantitative) to analyze individual and group behavior and recommends strategies for making needed changes based on interpretation of results.
  • Provides one-on-one confidential leadership and managerial developmental coaching (with or without assessment) to departmental, division and school leadership to develop their performance.
  • Leads the oversight and sets the organizational priorities for key vendors and consultant partners. OD Sr Consultants review priorities and projects and recommend external providers when needed. They partner with the unit/school in the selection and provide oversight and direction for external providers.
  • Leads the facilitation of team / organizational retreats, succession planning, leadership development planning and new leader assimilation process.
  • Works closely within HR Leadership to develop the organization and collaborates with other HR functions such as Learning and Development and Employee Relations to integrate organization learning into plans and talent performance solutions.
  • Leads design and delivery of large-scale organization, talent management, and group solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
