Full Job Description
The Senior Consultant, collaborating with Managers and other Ryan senior staff, consults with historic building owners, architects, engineers, and contractors, as well as federal, state, and local regulators to facilitate the completion of the process of obtaining Historic Preservation Certification. The Senior Consultant advises on the availability of federal (and other jurisdictional) tax credits. The Senior Consultant provides knowledgeable technical preservation expertise assisting building owners through the complexity of the historic preservation process.

*This is a hybrid position and the candidate will typically be in-office, going to site visits, client meetings, etc. about three times/week or so depending on business needs.*

Duties and Responsibilities:

People:
  • Creates a positive team member experience.

  • Client relationship and business development responsibilities.
  • May work more independently and autonomously with contractors, owners, and regulators on projects.
  • Documentation and expert advice to all levels of the process, creating a client facing partnership with key regulators.


Client:
  • Increased public-facing representative of Ryan.
  • Works with project design teams to approve work necessary to meet preservation standard.

  • Oversees the completion of the regulatory filings and amendments as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree with strong writing and research capabilities (in History, Architectural History, Historical Preservation or equivalent preferred)
  • Minimum four years' experience with historic tax credit application projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, and write persuasive technical arguments
  • Work experience in comparable federal, state, or local preservation programs is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and initiative working in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to conduct research both online and in archives
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment


Computer Skills:
  • Technical proficiency in Creative Cloud suite (especially InDesign) to layup photos, create maps, and photo keys


Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver's license required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of Consultants.

May lead a project team.

Work Environment:
  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
  • This position requires a fair amount field activity
    • Exposure to workplace elements, such as dust, dirt, shavings
  • Independent travel requirement: 40 to 60% for site visits, client meetings, etc.
