Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Space Integration, South Sector, the Calgary Senior Consultant works with a high degree of independence and in concert with internal and external stakeholders to support planning processes, programs, and projects. The Senior Consultant develops and manages various initiatives and provides ongoing client support for individuals, departments, program, sites, and government planning teams. The position will provide leadership to develop strategies for coordination and delivery of tools/resources and leads the support of assigned projects and programs. The position provides advice and direction to internal stakeholders within its specialty function and scope of projects is focused on those above the major capital project threshold.

Description:

The work will involve collaborating and providing advice to key stakeholders to inform development of information and documents (e.g. briefing notes or reports) to support major capital projects. If projects advance, the planning work is led by the ministries with the Senior Consultant as the primary contact to support operational leadership interests throughout the planning phases. The Senior Consultant will interpret client needs, assess requirements, and identify solutions to non-standard issues and requests. The work is to align with the values, goals, and principles of the Provincial Health Corporations (PHCs), Provincial Health Agencies (PHAs), and Alberta Government ministries that Health Shared Services supports for delivery of healthcare services for Albertans. The position is responsible for involving the right stakeholders at the right time. The position requires a high level of communication skill to circulate information regarding major capital initiatives in a clear and succinct manner, support confidentiality, and translate information to project participants who may have limited architectural/planning understanding and who may be unfamiliar with potential downstream impact of their decisions during project development. The Senior Consultant develops clear work plans and utilizes engagement to resolve complex issues in a timely manner. Additional duties may be assigned to support the information needs of PHAs, PHCs, and ministries. Candidate will excel if comfortable operating within a degree of ambiguity as governance and processes continue to evolve. The senior consultant is required to work with others as a team and may be required to take on projects within other corridors as assigned. Travel to sites beyond urban centers may be required and may require overnight stay. Typical hours will align with standard hours of the PHCs/PHAs and ministries.

Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a degree in Architecture, or diploma in Architectural Technology, or a degree in a health discipline/business combined with architecture/planning/project delivery experience. Basic ability to manipulate drawings within AutoCAD.

Additional Required Qualifications:
At a minimum a candidate will possess five years of experience in a professional planning capacity in healthcare or other large, institutional, publicly funded projects. Specifically experience in healthcare operational planning or a functional planning role within an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity is required. The role requires a unique set of professional skills that tend to be difficult to recruit for in their entirety including; comprehensive architectural, capital and/or healthcare planning experience; an understanding of healthcare built environments and their impact on healthcare operations and cost impact; a working knowledge of best practice standards; and the ability to search out creative solutions to complex and challenging operational and capital challenges. The role requires a number of unique communication and stakeholder engagement skills including; the ability to develop project plans and lead a diverse group of professional and non-professional healthcare staff; to lead, facilitate, influence, and advise GOA Ministry Leadership, Senior Operational and Clinical leadership, and executive and external consultants on complex, occasionally confrontational, confidential, emotional and/or stressful challenges or projects; and to bring a professional, focused approach in business dealings.

Preferred Qualifications:
Seven or more years of experience in healthcare design and functional planning within an organization of significant size and complexity. Preferred designations: Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), Project Management Professional Certificate (PMP), Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
