Full Job Description
The Senior Construction Inspection role leads the monitoring and documentation of construction activities, ensuring full compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and permits. This role leads site inspections, prepares and reviews detailed reports, and serves as a key liaison among project stakeholders to resolve complex field issues. This role supports project delivery by leading the evaluation of change orders, payment applications, and maintaining comprehensive records of work progress and contract modifications. The role works under minimum supervision and leverages advanced or specialized skills to devise new techniques and approaches requiring sound decision making within scope of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction work progress daily.
  • Lead daily site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, standards, codes, and permits
  • Lead documentation process and ensure reports documenting weather, equipment, manpower, and construction activities, and daily progress photos, as well as monthly progress reports for project stakeholders are completed in an accurate timely manner
  • Manage and review inspection documentation records utilizing varied construction information management systems
  • Evaluate and negotiate change orders, invoices, and payment applications which may include final payment including coordination with the Owner. Perform independent verification of pay quantities.
  • Maintain accurate records related to the base work, contingency and field changes
  • Service as technical resource in commissioning, testing, and start-up of process systems/equipment or facilities ensuring operational readiness and compliance.
  • Prepare effective and accurate record documents and all project, permit, and contract close-out documentation.
  • Review and provide recommendations on design and bidding documents to enhance constructability, reduce risk, and improve project delivery outcomes.
  • Identify and assess project risks, developing mitigation strategies and influencing decision-making to support successful execution.
  • Maintain and audit complex records related to base work, contingency usage, and field changes, ensuring traceability and compliance with project controls.
  • Lead collaboration to resolve issues in the field with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, designers and regulatory agencies, and the effected public.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.


Mentorship

  • May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.


Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations, local and national building codes, and quality standards
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, and contractual documents
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of safety requirements
  • Advanced verbal/written communication and organizational skills working with multidisciplinary teams, including clients and fellow staff members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in the implementation of the daily execution of key functions while coordinating with engineering, field management and building trade staff.
  • Ability to walk around a construction site of varying size and topography to perform inspections and ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction activities


Experience

  • Typically, a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in construction inspection or related field is required.
  • Previous construction experience


Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $85,000 - $116,000
