The job details are as follows:
Senior Computational Engineer (CLIMB)
United Therapeutics Corporation seeks a Senior Computational Engineer (CLIMB) in Silver Spring, MD to perform the following job duties: Apply advanced engineering and applied mathematics concepts to perform specialized computational research to develop and implement processes for simulating in silico continuum fluid mechanics (e.g., lung ventilation and perfusion), lung tissue mechanics, as well as the blood-tissue interactions, particularly in the context of cardiovascular diseases such as pulmonary hypertension (PH), and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Apply various continuum modeling techniques to simulate lung tissue mechanics and the related air and blood flow (fluid dynamics), with a focus on integrating imaging and pathology data to enhance the degree of anatomical accuracy within the lung model. Estimate model parameters and validate model output through comparison to human physiology data. Apply knowledge of numerical methods relevant to modeling and simulation of partial differential equations. Collaborate with other professional Computational Engineers and Biologists to integrate models of fluid and tissue mechanics into large multiscale models spanning processes from the organ level to the molecular level. Support efforts within the company's computational laboratory to use cloud-based high-performance computing for large-scale simulations of biological systems. Communicate results effectively through interactive visualizations, presentations at internal and external meetings, and peer-reviewed publications.
Position requires: PhD in an engineering or applied mathematics field with 12 months of full-time equivalent experience in job offered or a directly related Computational Research position in the field of fluid flow and tissue mechanics. Computational Research experience acquired during the course of a post-graduate or higher degree program would be qualifying. In the alternative, employer will accept a Masters in an engineering or applied mathematics field with 36 months of full-time equivalent experience in job offered or a directly related Computational Research position in the field of fluid flow and tissue mechanics. Computational Research experience acquired during the course of a post-graduate or higher degree program would be qualifying. Alternatively, Employer will also Bachelors in an engineering or applied mathematics field with five years of full-time equivalent experience in job offered or a directly related Computational Research position in the field of fluid flow and tissue mechanics. Computational Research experience acquired during the course of a post-graduate or higher degree program would be qualifying.
Position also requires 12 months of full-time equivalent experience: 1) performing all aspects of the computational modeling workflow for fluid or tissue mechanics, including: domain creation or reconstruction, mesh generation, solver handling, and data post-processing and visualization; 2) employing one of the following industry standard scientific programming languages: C++, Python, R, Julia, or MATLAB; 3) modeling and simulating partial differential equations using numerical libraries or frameworks such as SciPy, SUNDIALS, MATLAB, or DifferentialEquations.jl.; and 4) modeling physiology employing multi-scale simulation techniques and reduced-order modeling approaches.
Offered wage: $134,930 - $140,000/year with standard corp benefits.
