Job Description

We are seeking an Intermediate or Senior Coastal Engineer to join our Burnaby office. You will be part of the Water Resources Engineering team within Stantec's Water Business Line. You will report directly to a Team Lead on our local Water Resources team and collaborate with other water resources engineers from across Canada and within Stantec's global networks to deliver projects both in British Columbia and across the Globe.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an Intermediate or Senior Coastal Engineer, you will:
  • Manage assigned projects and tasks independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding and consistent application of industry standards, guidelines, and regulatory frameworks
  • Lead and contribute to engineering assessment and design projects involving infrastructure, flood risk reduction, and restoration in coastal areas.
  • Develop hydrodynamic models using tools such as MIKE 3, MIKE 21, and Telemac to support coastal and river engineering projects including design of coastal protection, nature based solutions, flooding risk analysis, design of marine infrastructure, sediment transport analysis, shoreline protection assessments, etc.
  • Apply a strong understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic principles as well as coastal processes.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting field investigations, analytical findings interpretations, design basis, design drawings, and opinions of probable cost.
  • Lead and support proposal development and assist in creating work plans, project schedules, and budgets.
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to a cohesive and productive work environment that values mentoring, workload sharing and both individual and team development.
  • Perform primarily office-based work, involving extended periods of computer use and data analysis

Education and Experience
  • Graduate degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering with a focus on hydrodynamics, water resources, and geomorphology or earth sciences
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in consulting or regulatory environments
  • Regular use of hydrodynamic modeling tools.
  • Professional engineer registration (P.Eng.) with EGBC or eligibility to obtain P.Eng.
  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather
