Job Description

The Westchester Casualty Senior Claim Specialist is responsible for investigating and settling high exposure, high severity surplus lines claims while ensuring a high level of customer service and claim file quality. This is an individual contributor, claim handling role.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides outstanding customer service and works well with the insured, broker and claimant in the adjustment of primary and excess claims, environmental claims, GL claims, construction liability and/or NYLL claims, product recall claims.
  • Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions, as warranted, under direction of supervisor.
  • Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of third-party property and bodily injury damages.
  • Directs and closely monitors assignments to experts and defense counsel.
  • Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of exposure to the insured and the company.
  • Sets timely reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to supervisor.
  • Travels to conferences, mediations, and trials as necessary.
  • Responsible for litigation management.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and previous claim handling experience; experience with GL, construction liability, excess, professional liability, environmental and/or product recall a plus. JD preferred.

Additional requirements:
  • A minimum of 3+ years experience handling casualty claims, including but not limited to construction, environmental, GL, and/or excess claims.
  • Experience in successfully handling severity exposure claims
  • Strong background and demonstrated ability in dealing with significant coverage matters including manuscript endorsements.
  • Extensive knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of complex issues.
  • Demonstrated strong relational skills particularly in adverse or high-pressure situations.

The pay range for the role is $83,600 to $119,900. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors.
