We are a cross-functional team of subject-matter-experts, engineers, modelers, planners, analysts, and innovators working to deliver strategic economic and non-kinetic solutions to the nation's most pressing security challenges.
We are seeking a Senior China Research Analyst to support high-priority research and analysis related to the People's Republic of China (PRC). This role is designed for an experienced analyst with subject-matter expertise in Chinese industrial policy, military modernization, and critical technology planning, as well as demonstrated experience leading small analytic teams and independently managing a research portfolio.
Roles & Responsibilities:- Collaborate with internal and external subject-matter experts to strengthen analysis and incorporate multidisciplinary perspectives.
- Contribute to data-informed research efforts, including identifying opportunities to leverage large datasets and analytical tools where appropriate.
- Execute research priorities established by program leadership while proactively identifying adjacent issues, emerging developments, and opportunities for additional analysis.
- Brief research findings and analytic judgments to senior government, military, and other stakeholder audiences in a clear and concise manner.
- Conduct research and analysis on China-related national security issues, with a focus on topics such as PRC industrial policy, the defense industrial base, PLA reform and modernization, and PRC planning for critical technologies.
- Exploit and evaluate Chinese-language primary and secondary sources and incorporate relevant findings into all-source or mixed-source analysis.
Basic Qualifications:- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Asian Studies, International Relations, Economics, or a related field with a focus on China's language, culture, policy, and economy; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Professional experience researching one or more of the following areas:
- PRC industrial policy / defense industrial base
- PLA reform and modernization
- PRC policy planning for critical technologies
- Demonstrated experience being a part of a small teams of analysts and collaborating on workflows, quality control, and deliverables.
- Proven ability to follow research direction, execute against established priorities, and independently identify opportunities to expand and drive additional China-focused analysis.
- Full professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese; applicants will be assessed on language capabilities.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and structured research skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor analysis for senior decision-makers.
- Experience exploiting Chinese-language sources and integrating them into all-source or mixed-source analytical products.
- Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance
- Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements for a clearance, U.S Citizenship is required.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience supporting U.S. government, defense, intelligence, think tank, or federally funded research environments.
- Experience leveraging big data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to China-focused research topics
- Basic familiarity with SQL and/or Python for data querying, analysis, and research support
- Prior experience briefing senior government or military leaders.
- Advanced degree in China studies, security studies, international relations, public policy, economics, or a related discipline.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:$121,200 - $151,500 - $181,800 Annual
