Summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Buyer to support our Security - Intrusion business. This role is responsible for managing strategic and day-to-day procurement activities associated with our Contract Manufacturing partners while ensuring material availability, supply continuity, cost competitiveness, and operational execution. The successful candidate will serve as the primary procurement interface between the business and assigned contract manufacturers, driving supplier performance and supporting business objectives across quality, delivery, inventory, and cost.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Manufacturer Management

  • Serve as the primary procurement contact for assigned contract manufacturing partners.


  • Lead regular operational reviews to monitor delivery, inventory, capacity, lead times, and overall supplier performance.


  • Coordinate resolution of supply, quality, and operational issues impacting production.


  • Escalate risks and drive recovery plans when supplier performance falls below expectations.


Supply Continuity & Materials Management

  • Maintain uninterrupted supply of components and finished goods required to support customer demand.


  • Proactively identify capacity, material, logistics, and market constraints.


  • Develop mitigation plans for shortages, allocation situations, and end-of-life components.


  • Support inventory optimization initiatives while balancing service and cost objectives.


Procurement Execution

  • Lead RFQ execution and supplier quotation activities in support of new product introductions, supplier changes, and cost reduction initiatives.


  • Negotiate commercial terms within delegated authority and coordinate with Category Management on strategic sourcing activities.


  • Execute approved pricing actions and ensure timely implementation within ERP systems.


  • Support sourcing board, supplier selection, and procurement compliance requirements.


Supplier Performance Management

  • Monitor supplier performance across delivery, quality, responsiveness, inventory, and cost metrics.


  • Drive corrective action plans and continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers.


  • Participate in supplier business reviews and operational performance discussions.


  • Support supplier development activities and implementation of Johnson Controls supplier standards.


New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Support procurement activities associated with product launches and engineering changes.


  • Coordinate material readiness, supplier onboarding, and implementation timelines.


  • Partner with Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure successful launches.


Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Category Management, Planning, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and Supplier Quality teams.


  • Support implementation of category strategies and approved commercial agreements.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Finance, or related field.


  • 5+ years of procurement, sourcing, supply chain, or buyer experience in a manufacturing environment.


  • Experience managing suppliers, contract manufacturers, or electronics manufacturing service (EMS) partners.


  • Experience in electronics, security, intrusion, controls, or related industries.


  • Strong negotiation and commercial acumen.


  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred).


  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.


  • Knowledge of direct material procurement and global supply chains.


  • Experience leading supplier business reviews and performance improvement initiatives.


SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $120,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
