Department of Neurosurgery

Job Description

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a Sr. Business Services Consultant to oversee departmental business operations, financial management, revenue cycle performance, and coding compliance. This role partners with providers, clinical divisions, and administrative teams to maximize revenue, ensure regulatory compliance, improve operational efficiency, and support the strategic goals of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review provider documentation and billing activity to identify coding, documentation, and reimbursement opportunities.
  • Monitor coding accuracy and compliance with CPT®, HCPCS, payer, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Research payer policy changes and implement recommendations to optimize reimbursement and reduce denials.
  • Identify revenue leakage, billing errors, and process inefficiencies; develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct coding and documentation audits and provide education and training to providers and staff.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), charge reconciliation metrics, and revenue cycle performance.
  • Develop and maintain tools and reports to monitor financial performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead regular meetings with clinical divisions to review financial results, operational metrics, and revenue enhancement strategies.
  • Manage departmental budgets, financial reporting, forecasting, and year-end financial activities.
  • Oversee multiple funding sources and monitor revenues and expenditures across clinical divisions.
  • Prepare and analyze clinical, financial, and productivity reports to support strategic decision-making.
  • Administer faculty incentive plans, academic contracts, and external agreements, including Veterans Affairs affiliations.
  • Collaborate with providers, billing teams, and revenue cycle partners to ensure accurate charge capture, timely claims processing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide administrative, financial, and operational leadership to support departmental goals and initiatives.
  • Maintain proficiency in healthcare systems and reporting tools, including EHR, billing, and coding platforms.
  • Lead special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

This position offers the opportunity to drive financial performance, operational excellence, and compliance while supporting providers and advancing departmental strategic initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Education: BS
Credentials: Coding Certification, CPA
Years of Experience: 2-5yrs
Niche Professional Interests: medical coding/billing/healthcare finance
Additional Training: Experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, coding compliance, financial administration, or physician practice operations. Strong financial analysis, budgeting, auditing, and problem-solving skills. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial analysis, reporting, pivot tables, formulas, and data management.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $60,944 - $112,000 annually
