The Opportunity

The Senior Business Process Manager (BPM) role ​​reports into the Strategic Planning & Assurance (SP&A) team within CSI. The SP&A team translates strategy to execution, connects dots across segments and workstreams, and leads and deliverscomprehensive end-to-end programs to achieve business goals and ROI, in partnership with CCM Leadership, CSI Leadership, ATI, IT, Finance, Legal, HCO, and other CCM, PAA, GNE and Roche teams. The BPM guides, influences, and shapes CSI’s strategic planning, initiatives, business processes, and technological advancements to maximize the full potential of CSI’s people, processes, and technologies now and in the future. 

The Senior BPM is primarily responsible for translating business ideas, challenges and innovations into actionable plans. The Senior BPM will lead and drive the development, design, coordination across teams, and implementation of key CCM and cross CSI initiatives. Specifically, this role will have responsibility for facilitating and orchestrating cross CSI/CCM 340B program integrity and revenue leakage prevention initiatives, driving action plans that support business outcomes, in addition to other BPM activities.

The Senior BPM supports CSI systems, data, processes, documentation, and reporting from a business perspective and represents CSI in cross-functional operations and information technology projects and initiatives. The Senior BPM is also expected to share some of the other departmental management activities in support of CSI LT as appropriate, e.g., reviewing the work of other team members, developing training & development programs and other initiatives for the department, preparing and delivering senior management presentations on complex, strategic or long-term issues, playing an active role in or leading the department’s work in evaluating and planning for the longer-term scalability and sustainability of CSI infrastructure and other resources. In addition, the Senior BPM is expected to be knowledgeable on key CSI processes, systems, and reporting tools and to lead operational excellence and continuous improvement projects and initiatives or other special projects that help CSI cross-functional teams optimize effectiveness and efficiencies and scale their operations to meet current and future business needs.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner and advisor to CSI LT on CSI systems, related processes, data, analysis, reporting, planning, and data/reporting compliance

  • Support CSI’s strategic planning process, initiatives, business processes, and technological advancements to maximize the full potential of CSI’s people, processes, and technologies now and in the future

  • Leads the business support efforts of system upgrades and/or enhancements to optimize data, processes, documentation, reporting and change management activities to support the current and future CSI and CCM strategies and activities

  • Work with senior leaders and stakeholders to lead the assessment, quantitative analysis and identification of current state processes, pain points and barriers. Then, prioritizes and recommends process improvement efforts (future state solutions) aligned with the business strategic plans to ensure short and long-term organizational improvements

  • Consult with senior leadership and provide analysis and advice on organizational and operational performance, IT systems portfolios, and business process related decisions

  • Supports the implementation of complex strategies (e.g. 340B, revenue leakage protection, 3 year planning, etc.) and/or large scale projects across CSI to ensure consistent translation of contract terms into operational solutions that fulfill the access and financial obligations of the agreement 

  • Leads large-scale sustainability efforts, technology projects, process improvements and/or other departmental initiatives aimed at continuous optimization of CSI operations and efficiencies including scaling its operations currently and over the medium- and longer-term planning horizon

  • Lead, encourage and collaborate with business teams across the organization to plan, map, evaluate, design, and measure processes to identify and deliver business process improvements that streamline or simplify activity, increase quality and efficiency, expand organizational capacity, and represent best practices

  • Orchestrate cross-functional collaboration with effective stakeholder engagement and deliver short-term/long-term roadmaps to support evolving business needs

  • Develop, implement, train and monitor departmental standard operating procedures that reduce process variation and drive process flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness

  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing workflows and develop process and technology strategies that enhance the customer experience and operational effectiveness across all function

  • Provides system and process expertise to support CSI interactions with external and internal customers, clearly and accurately communicating (verbally and in written form) contract and program details to a wide range of stakeholders driving decision-making around implementation of complex strategies at the account level

  • Acts as a team advisor, coach and mentor to other CSI team members by providing his/her knowledge of pricing and contracting systems, managed care and distribution channel knowledge, helping to develop the overall skill-set of team members. Includes playing a leadership role in team member recruitment, onboarding and training

  • Establishes appropriate performance metrics for monitoring, evaluating and reporting on contracts, contract performance and other business, legal and regulatory requirements

  • Mobilizes and leads autonomous and cross-functional teams to deliver on business results and department priorities through ambiguity and with minimal oversight

  • Fosters and synthesizes diversity of thought and ideas to improve system capabilities, simplify operational procedures, and evolve business practices

  • Complies with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities 

Who you are

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree  

  • You have a minimum of 8-10 years’ work experience in healthcare, strategy, or operations consulting; pharmaceutical/biotechnology contract operations or business operations (with emphasis on business systems, business analyses, analytics and reporting, project and change management, and operational excellence)

  • 4 or more years’ experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology, managed care, healthcare, or life sciences industry 

  • Knowledge of managed care, healthcare industry, and/or government programs (340B, FSS, Medicare, Medicaid) is preferred

  • Proven ability to work in a complex, customer-focused environment with tight and frequent deadlines

  • Proven ability to build collaboration and drive problem-solving within and across teams

  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders through effective communication, written and verbal

  • Excellent strategic thinker with analytical and solutions-driven mindset

  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail 

  • Solid expertise with Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and Google suite applications

  • Expert knowledge of systems and reporting tools that support operations

This role is based out of our South San Francisco Genentech Campus

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $147,600/yr to $274,200/yr.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
