Magic: The Gathering is experiencing exciting growth, using new technologies and data streams to reach fresh audiences and understand our fan base in groundbreaking ways. We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst to use these tools and existing data to conduct analyses that deepen our understanding of the Magic community. This role will find opportunities to reduce barriers for new players and delight longtime fans. Partnering with analytics and data engineers, this individual will transform data into actionable insights and visualizations, making impactful recommendations for design and product teams. They will remain inquisitive and objective, constantly seeking new insights that inform the business strategy. This individual will be a cornerstone of the Magic Analytics team, elevating data awareness and crafting crucial insights for Magic's future.

What You'll Do:

  • Analyze and Problem-Solve: Break down complex, loosely defined problems into clear, data-driven answers.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Translate business needs into technical solutions. Explain complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Project Ownership: Lead mid-size analysis projects or major parts of larger ones. Handle timelines, dependencies, and delivery with minimal direction.
  • Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards and automated reports using Tableau or Power BI to track performance and uncover trends.
  • Data Design and Engineering Support:
    • Write advanced SQL queries (window functions, CTEs, optimized joins).
    • Create reliable, maintainable scripts and queries that handle imperfect data.
    • Work with engineers to shape data pipelines, structure raw data, and connect APIs or business systems to analytics tools.
  • Process and Systems Improvement: Spot opportunities to simplify workflows, improve data quality, and strengthen how teams use analytics.
  • Mentorship and Team Growth:
    • Share technical and analytical knowledge across the team.
    • Explore new tools and methods that can improve how we work.


What You'll Bring:
  • Education and Experience:
    • Master's degree in Analytics, Data Science, Economics, or a related field with 5+ years of experience as a business analyst or data analyst in consumer, digital or technology; or
    • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years proven track record as a business or data analyst in consumer, digital, or technology fields.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced SQL skills, including query optimization and design for scalability.
    • Experience building complex dashboards in Tableau and/or Power BI.
    • Familiarity with ETL processes, APIs, and connecting systems.
    • Comfortable working in Agile or Waterfall environments.
  • Analytical Ability:
    • Ability to translate business questions/problems into data requirements
    • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to data accuracy and efficiency.
    • Understands how to balance technical constraints with business priorities.
    • Able to weigh short-term solutions against long-term goals.
  • Communication and Leadership:
    • Clear, concise communicator across teams and levels.
    • Directs smaller multi-functional projects and influences decisions with evidence-based recommendations.
    • Proactively identifies and addresses risks and roadblocks.
