Responsibilities

Full Job Description
Job Purpose

  • The Battery Management System Engineer role is responsible for delivering defined engineering assignments with guidance, while expanding the breadth of technical knowledge and starting to deepen expertise in specific technology area.
  • As a member of the Electrical & Electronics Architecture (EEA) Division, this position is expected to design vehicles' electrical and electronics infrastructure, integrate and package the battery related software including input from other systems and divisions.
  • The position is responsible for Battery Management and Charge Balance system and the correct parameter application among other responsibilities. Role requires heavy correlation with counterparts in Japan side (4MOC) as well as counterparts within the electrical division.


Key Accountabilities

  • Project and team management: Breaking down project concept details into required development activities and deciding the overall ECU development plan with Technical Leadership's guidance and support, correlating technical project details with key stakeholders and negotiating the schedule for deliverables. Informing technical leadership of project status often is expected.
  • Engineering specification design including electrical circuit hardware and software. Setting the direction to create design concepts before converting to requirements and functional specifications, then conducting design reviews with technical leadership.
  • Engineering troubleshooting, root cause analysis and solution design: Working hands-on in prototype or mass production level vehicles to identify responsible system(s) functional issues and deciding the steps required for resolution.
  • Testing and verification of ECU specifications related to hardware and software: Performing testing in prototype or mass production level vehicles related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) or verification of technical change points to ensure proper electrical functional performance, quality and reliability. Accountable to create test result reports and conduct verification reviews with technical leadership.
  • Improvement and innovation: Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures in order to increase efficiency and other key metrics.
  • Documentation: Management of multiple concurrent developments with the ability to recognize problems in advance and navigate the unknown, with the experience to see the next step and create a decision matrix for solving a problem or troubleshoot with multiple options.
  • Report concern(s) items to Technical Leadership and identify/propose C/Ms for resolution after conducting thorough root cause analysis
  • Work with suppliers to coordinate requirements, schedule activities, and address issues in a timely manner


Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Minimum Educational Qualifications:
    • Must have at least an Associate level college degree / diploma in engineering in any of these fields of study, e.g. - Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical / Chemical / Control Systems / Mechatronics / Physics / Material Sc &c and/or, ideally a 4-year Bachelors degree in aforementioned fields of study
  • Minimum Experience:
    • At least 3 years relevant experience working in the automotive industry or an industry with similar applications / technologies.
  • Other Job-Specific Skills:
    • Effective communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
    • Ability to cultivate and manage relationships of varying levels in/out of the organization, including supplier.
    • Ability to acclimate to new environments, negotiate through unknowns and meet new people.
    • Ability to manage time effectively and productively.
    • Solid quantitative/analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills
    • Computer skills, such as PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project, Word, CANalyzer etc.

Workstyle

  • This is an onsite job. One remote workday a week may be possible with prior departmental approval.
