Role Summary:
The Autonomy & Automation team with Cat Technology is seeking an Engineer to join our Site engineering organization to support machine control and autonomy solutions, ensuring reliable delivery of software‑enabled functionality to customers.

This position provides engineering support for the design, development, integration, and validation of software that spans on‑machine systems, cloud services, and dealer/factory workflows, ensuring reliable delivery of licensed functionality to customers.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to analyze requirements, develop and test software, document designs and processes, and troubleshoot complex technical issues spanning machine, system, and cloud‑based environments. The role also supports verification and validation activities, product releases, and ongoing improvements to existing solutions.


What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and validate software supporting machine control and autonomy solutions, including embedded software enablement mechanisms
  • Work across onboard (embedded software enablement) and offboard (cloud-based systems), supporting device‑to‑cloud and cloud‑to‑device interactions.
  • Develop and execute formal verification and validation plans, including functional, regression, and release testing across multiple machine platforms.
  • Utilize bench machines, test assets, and DSP engineering environments to diagnose, reproduce, and resolve complex system issues.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot software, data, and integration defects involving enterprise systems, digital services, and distribution workflows.
  • Produce and maintain architecture documentation, design descriptions, test cases, operating procedures, and validation documentation.
  • Partner closely with product management, NPI teams, product support, and dealers to support launches, field follow, and continuous improvement activities.

What you will have:

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. 
  • Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace. 
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
  • Programming: Knowledge of relevant programming languages and tools; ability to test, write, design, debug, troubleshoot and maintain source codes and computer programs. 

Top candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience working across the software development life cycle, including development, integration, and validation.
  • Hands‑on experience debugging and troubleshooting distributed or integrated systems.
  • Ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation and test artifacts.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Cat Grade and Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT)
  • Experience with autonomy, machine control, or construction technology systems.
  • Background in software licensing, subscriptions, or entitlement systems.
  • Experience supporting factory, dealer, or field follow processes.
  • Familiarity with safety‑critical or regulated product releases.

  • This position requires the candidate to be based in either Mossville, IL or Broomfield, CO (Denver)

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $183,140.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
