Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

  • Two (2) years of legal experience.


Preferences:
  • Three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a state or federal criminal prosecutor, public defender, or criminal defense attorney.
  • Three (3) years of experience in white collar, economic crime, or insurance fraud, as a law enforcement agency legal advisor, insurance defense, or government or relator's counsel in state or federal qui tam actions.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and either Westlaw or Lexis/Nexis legal research tools.


SPECIAL NOTES:

It is the agency's goal to fill multiple vacancies with this ad. These positions are located in Tallahassee.

The salary range for this position is $78,795.00 -$102,000.00 with benefits (state health insurance and retirement contributions) worth approximately $29,000-$40,000 (per DMS).

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Valid driver's license required.

This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

The Criminal Law & False Claims attorneys are legal advisors to the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). This section advises sworn and non-sworn investigators state-wide on insurance fraud, public assistance fraud, workers' compensation fraud, theft of state resources, unclaimed property fraud, public corruption, and fire, arson, and explosives investigations. The section also represents the CFO's interest in False Claims Act cases served on the Department. Our attorneys work with investigators on a variety of matters, from developing complex, multi-jurisdictional organized fraud rings and schemes to defraud cases for presentation to prosecutors, to reviewing search warrants for sufficiency, advising on investigational procedures and agency policy, and preparing personnel for testimony. This section provides a substantial amount of training to CID employees and requires occasional travel for the training.
