Responsibilities

The Senior Associate - Ventures & Business Development supports NYBCe's strategic growth initiatives through venture investing, licensing, and business development activities. The role is responsible for evaluating investment and partnership opportunities, conducting scientific and commercial due diligence, supporting portfolio company oversight, and advancing licensing opportunities for NYBCe's intellectual property and research technologies. Working closely with scientific, legal, and executive leadership, the incumbent helps drive venture investments and research partnerships, and venture investments that further NYBCe's innovation and long-term growth objectives. This position requires a strong blend of scientific knowledge, business acumen, financial analysis, and relationship management within the life sciences and biotechnology sectors.

Position Location:

This position is located in Boston, MA onsite, and requires occasional visits to our Rye, NY location.

NYBC Ventures (~50%)
  • Support the full investment lifecycle - sourcing, diligence, structuring, and portfolio monitoring, including Board observancy - across the Ventures portfolio.
  • Conduct scientific and commercial due diligence on prospective investments, including competitive landscape analysis, market sizing, and IP assessment.
  • Prepare investment memoranda, board materials, and valuation updates.
  • Monitor and support portfolio companies, including preparation for board and observer meetings and tracking of key milestones.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with co-investors, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem partners in the blood, biologics, and broader life sciences space.

Licensing & Business Development (~50%)
  • Identify, evaluate, and advance in and out licensing and partnership opportunities for NYBCe's proprietary technologies, research programs, and intellectual property.
  • Lead and support GMP iPSC cell line licensing efforts, including ownership of deal processes from opportunity identification through term negotiation and execution - working closely with legal, scientific, and manufacturing teams.
  • Support the broader deal lifecycle across NYBCe's IP portfolio, partnering closely with legal and scientific teams on term sheet development and agreement execution.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to inform partnership strategy and asset positioning, with particular attention to the cell therapy and regenerative medicine landscape
  • Maintain and develop relationships with potential licensees, including cell therapy developers, academic institutions, CDMOs, and industry partners.
  • Prepare internal presentations, briefing materials, and deal summaries for senior leadership.


Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, business, or related field.

Experience:
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in life sciences venture capital, investment banking, business development, or a related field (exact level commensurate with experience).

For applicants who will perform this position in New York or Boston, the proposed annual salary is $100,000 p/yr. to $110,000 p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York or Boston, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant's skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.

NYBC also conducts research in hematology, blood banking, transfusion medicine, and cellular therapies. The center was founded in 1964 and is headquartered in New York City. NYBC operates 13 blood donation centers and has partnerships with over 40 hospitals in the Northeastern United States.
