Job Location (Full Address): Remote Work - New York, Albany, New York, United States of America, 12224 Opening: Worker Subtype: Regular Time Type: Full time Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Department: 100006 Ofc Sr Vice Pres Advancement Work Shift: UR - Day (United States of America) Range: UR UR2 098 Responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for Medical Center Advancement (Sr AVP), the Assistant Vice President (Asst VP) for Golisano Childrens Hospital Advancement is a member of the senior leadership team for Medical Center Advancement and will manage the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies that maximize philanthropic contributions from the Medical Centers top leadership and principal gift prospects in direct support of Golisano Childrens Hospital (GCH). This position will lead a high performing team focused on securing a minimum of $10M annually in philanthropic support for strategic capital, program, and endowment priorities as identified by Medical Center and GCH leadership.

The Asst VP will have a portfolio of 125 principal and major gift prospects and will serve as a role model through their activity level. This position will serve as the main communication liaison with GCH leadership, physicians, and volunteers, including the Golisano Childrens Hospital Board, effectively articulating and advancing the vision of GCH to both internal and external constituents. The Asst VP will be responsible for working with the Board Chair to effectively guide board activities.

Travel is required for this position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Major Gift Fundraising
  • Work closely with GCH and URMC Advancement leadership to identify fundraising priorities and articulate compelling cases for support.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 125 prospective and active donors capable of closing gifts of $100,000+.
  • Partner effectively with GCH/Medical Center leadership, faculty, and key volunteers to advance relationships with major gift prospects.
  • Make at least 100 visits, at least 15 major gift solicitations, and 8 GEC gift solicitations annually.
  • Close 8 or more major gifts and 5 or more GEC gifts annually.
  • Leverage internal Advancement resources to develop and execute planned giving, principal gifts, and annual fund strategies for GCH prospects and donors.
  • Maintain frequent and open internal communication across all areas of Advancement to enhance collaboration.
Strategic Leadership
  • Optimize philanthropic support for GCH priorities. Develop comprehensive annual operation plans for his/her unit, setting clear goals for the team, and aligning unit goals with URMC Advancement goals.
  • Provide regular oversight and guidance as needed for units program prospect management, major gift activity, and programmatic activities, including signature and community fundraising events.
  • Model best-practice fundraising skills and mentor staff members.
Management
  • Recruit, train, manage, and motivate the GCH advancement team.
  • Develop individual performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and address any performance issues that may arise.
  • Conducts regular meetings with team, encourages and provides professional development opportunities, and career guidance.
Advisory Board Management/Volunteer Engagement
  • Actively manage working relationships with members of the GCH Advisory Board and other volunteers.
  • Serve as lead fundraiser in securing philanthropic support from board members; effectively engage board members and other volunteers as partners in raising funds from the broader Rochester and regional communities.
  • Implement best practices in volunteer management to ensure a highly engaged Advisory Board.
  • Work closely with GCH leadership, and its Advisory Board leadership, to develop meeting goals, agendas, and presentations.
  • Optimize the volunteer experience.
Maintain regular communication with the Sr AVP, keeping them apprised on activities with top prospects and donors and communications with University leadership. Participate in the activities of the appropriate professional organizations, establishing relationships with staff in comparable institutions to participate in information exchange, professional development activities, special projects, etc.; presenting at national conference to raise visibility of UR Advancement and URMC. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education & Experience
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Masters Degree (preferred)
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, particularly in higher education and/or an academic medical institution
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting gifts over $100k, particularly in an academic medical setting
  • Proven program management and leadership skills; experience leading a team of major gift officers and special events staff
  • Highly developed communication skills, including an ability to articulate philanthropic priorities related to medical research; political savviness; a high energy level; and a strong commitment to the mission of the GCH.
  • Intellectual curiosity and the desire to work as part of a team in a goal-oriented and dynamic environment are critical.

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
