This is a unique opportunity to bridge cutting-edge artificial intelligence with mission-critical power system challenges and shape the future of grid reliability and resilience.

As a Senior Applied AI Engineer, you will operate at the intersection of power systems engineering and enterprise AI. You will design, develop, and deploy production-grade AI solutions, including generative AI and agent-based systems that directly impact New England's energy infrastructure. You'll collaborate with stakeholders across Operations, Planning, Markets, and IT to identify high-value use cases, architect scalable solutions, and ensure responsible AI practices throughout the lifecycle. This role is perfect for someone who combines deep technical expertise in both power systems and modern AI technologies.

What we offer you:
  • A stable, mission-driven workplace where your impact truly matters
  • A highly engaged work environment that values inclusion, collaboration, and employee safety and wellbeing
  • Competitive compensation with a base salary + performance bonus
  • Robust benefits package, including:
    • Enhanced 401(k) and financial planning support
    • Tuition reimbursement and professional development
    • Wellness programs, including an onsite gym
    • Flexible work hours
    • Employee Business Networks
    • Free coffee at our onsite café
  • Hybrid work environment (3 days/week onsite)

How you will make an Impact
  • AI Solution Development: Design and deploy advanced AI/ML solutions to solve complex engineering and business problems, including grid planning workflow automation and AI-powered decision-support systems
  • Cloud & Scalable Computing: Leverage cloud platforms to support large-scale power system simulations and AI/ML workloads
  • Internal Consulting & Solution Delivery: Partner with business units (Operations, Planning, Markets, IT) to analyze business needs, design and prototype solutions, and drive production deployment of scalable AI systems.
  • External Collaboration: Engage with leading research organizations (EPRI, DOE National Labs, PSERC, CURENT) and industry partners to advance innovation and adopt emerging technologies
  • Innovation & Use Case Development: Identify new opportunities for AI adoption, develop prototypes, and translate emerging technologies into practical applications for grid operations and planning

What we are looking for
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with focus on power systems and artificial intelligence. PhD is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in power system operations, planning, or engineering, with demonstrated understanding of RTO/ISO business processes and challenges
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions in production settings
  • Knowledge and user experience in cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Strong software engineering skills (Python, data pipelines, version control, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with power system simulation tools (e.g., PSS®E, PSCAD, PowerWorld, DSATools)
  • Experience with generative AI and LLM-based applications (e.g., RAG, tool use, agent frameworks)
  • Familiarity with agent-based architectures, orchestration frameworks, and multi-agent system design
  • Understanding of MLOps practices (CI/CD, model monitoring, data pipelines)
