Full Job Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Analytics & Insights Analyst to join our analytics team in Santa Fe Springs. This position will serve as a key analytical resource, partnering closely with executive leadership, merchandising, buying, marketing, operations, finance, and other business functions to provide meaningful analysis, develop actionable insights, and support data-driven decision-making.

This position will be responsible for analyzing complex business questions, developing reporting and analytical solutions, identifying trends and opportunities, and translating data into clear business recommendations. This role requires strong technical and analytical capabilities, sound business judgment, and the ability to independently manage projects from initial requirements through delivery.

Position Summary

The Senior Analytical & Insights Analyst will use data, business knowledge, and analytical expertise to evaluate business performance, identify trends and opportunities, and provide insights that support strategic and operational decision-making.

This position will work with large and complex data sets and will be responsible for developing and maintaining reports, dashboards, visualizations, and analytical models. The Senior Analyst will independently investigate business questions, determine appropriate analytical approaches, validate results, and communicate findings and recommendations to business partners and leadership.

The role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with ambiguity, managing multiple priorities, and communicating complex information in a clear and understandable manner.

You will also serve as a resource to other members of the analytics team and business users by providing guidance, training, and support related to reporting tools, data interpretation, and analytical processes.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Insights
  • Analyze complex business questions and translate business needs into analytical solutions.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of sales, customer, merchandising, operational, financial, and other business data.
  • Identify trends, patterns, opportunities, and potential business risks through quantitative analysis.
  • Develop actionable insights and recommendations based on data and business knowledge.
  • Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives, business planning, and operational decision-making.
  • Investigate unexpected results or changes in business performance and identify potential drivers.
  • Apply sound judgment when interpreting data and clearly communicate assumptions, limitations, and findings.
  • Partner with business leaders to understand objectives and determine the appropriate data and analytical approach.

Reporting & Business Intelligence
  • Design, develop, and maintain reports, dashboards, charts, and visualizations using business intelligence tools, including MicroStrategy.
  • Develop reporting solutions that provide accurate, relevant, and actionable information to business users.
  • Evaluate existing reports and identify opportunities to improve usability, efficiency, accuracy, and business value.
  • Establish and maintain reporting standards and best practices.
  • Ensure reports and analytical outputs are thoroughly validated before distribution.
  • Manage reporting projects from requirements gathering through implementation and ongoing support.
  • Assist business users in interpreting reports and understanding analytical results.

SQL, Data & Technical Analysis
  • Write advanced SQL queries to extract, manipulate, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources.
  • Work with complex data sets and identify relationships between data sources.
  • Develop efficient and repeatable methods for retrieving and analyzing business information.
  • Validate data and investigate discrepancies to ensure analytical accuracy.
  • Identify data-quality issues and work with appropriate teams to resolve them.
  • Develop processes that improve the efficiency, consistency, and reliability of recurring analysis and reporting.
  • Use advanced Excel functionality, formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and other analytical tools to organize, validate, and analyze data.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of data structures, business definitions, and reporting requirements.

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Partner with executive leadership, merchandising, buying, marketing, operations, finance, and other departments to identify and address business needs.
  • Serve as a trusted analytical resource and subject-matter expert for assigned business areas.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to define requirements, establish priorities, and deliver analytical solutions.
  • Present analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Translate complex data and analysis into clear, concise business information.
  • Build strong working relationships across the organization and promote effective use of data in decision-making.

Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing reporting, analytical processes, and business practices.
  • Recommend improvements based on data analysis and business observations.
  • Develop automated or streamlined reporting processes when appropriate.
  • Help establish consistent methodologies, definitions, and processes across analytics and reporting.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing analytical tools and recommend enhancements when appropriate.
  • Support initiatives designed to improve the organization's use of data and business intelligence.

Senior-Level Expectations

Within the first several months, you are expected to:
  • Independently manage complex analytical assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in SQL and Excel.
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated reports, dashboards, and visualizations in MicroStrategy.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, business analysis, reporting, or a related analytical role.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including the ability to write complex queries and work with multiple data sources.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, lookups, data validation, and data analysis.
  • Experience developing business intelligence reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Experience with MicroStrategy or a comparable business intelligence platform.
  • Strong understanding of business principles, financial concepts, and data analysis.
  • Experience working with cross-functional business teams and senior-level stakeholders.
  • Strong mathematical and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in grocery, retail, consumer products, or another multi-location retail environment.

Salary range: $117,205 - $140,908
