Senior Air Operations Manager

Location: Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC), Alaska
Shift: Day (includes overtime, after-hours support, and exercise schedules)
Remote Type: No Remote
Clearance: Active DoD TS/SCI
Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
Experience: Minimum 10 years of military aviation operations experience

Position Overview

In this role, you will oversee aviation operations on the range, ensure compliance with applicable directives and safety requirements, integrate complex air operations, and maintain operational readiness throughout all scheduled training events.

Primary Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage and execute all aspects of air operations during training exercises.
  • Monitor and control all aircraft operating on the airfield and participating in daily missions.
  • Collaborate closely with the Mission Commander to develop, coordinate, and execute safe and effective mission plans.
  • Maintain close coordination with Operations Supervision, the Range Control Officer (RCO), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and exercise participants.
  • Review and approve Air Tasking Order (ATO) changes and exercise the authority to modify or cancel missions when required for safety.
  • Schedule range activities using the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) and Center Scheduling Enterprise (CSE).
  • Develop and review daily Drop Plans for U.S. Air Force units and coordinate approval with the appropriate Army Range Control organization.
  • Create and distribute Weapons Danger Zones (WDZ) supporting flight operations.
  • Attend mission planning meetings, including DIM, MAM, Next Day JECG/OPFOR Coordination, AM/PM JECG Synchronization, and GCAM.
  • Lead and participate in key execution meetings, including Large Force Exercise (LFE) Mass Briefs, FAA coordination calls, and vulnerability period (VUL) monitoring.
  • Ensure all mission briefings, meetings, and scheduled events are executed in accordance with the Master Scenario of Events (MSOE).

Qualifications
  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance.
  • Successful completion of Range Manager Toolkit (RMTK) and Weapons Danger Zone (WDZ) training.
  • Meet all Range Control Officer qualification requirements defined in AFI 13-212, Attachment 2.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Army Regulation (AR) 385-63 and USARAK 350-2.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Air Force Manual (AFMAN) 13-212.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Air Force Instruction (AFI) 11-214.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of military aviation operations experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of military range operations, weapons systems, and training safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, safety-critical operational environment.

Specialized Experience
  • Previously qualified as a Red Flag Air Boss (Red Flag-Alaska or Red Flag-Nellis experience preferred).
  • Experience supporting Large Force Exercises (LFE), Air Tasking Order (ATO) management, and FAA coordination.
  • Proficiency with RFMSS and CSE scheduling systems.
  • Experience enforcing aviation safety compliance across multiple joint and coalition aircraft platforms.
