The Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC) collaborates across Primary Care Alberta (PCA) and with external partners to advance health equity for Indigenous peoples and communities. The Indigenous Wellness Core is seeking a Senior Advisor to play a key role in implementing PCA programs and services in partnership with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Alberta. The Senior Advisor - North (SAN) will act as a first point of contact, strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities/organizations, through engagement with individuals, community leadership or other stakeholders to support community driven approaches to primary care and wellness. The SAN works closely with PCA Programs and other partners to support trauma informed, culturally grounded responses that align with community identified priorities. The SAN contributes to improved access to culturally safe primary health care and wellness supports while honouring Indigenous ways of knowing and being. The role champions collaborative approaches that respect Indigenous knowledge, sovereignty, and self determined pathways to wellness. The SAN will: Raise awareness of existing/potential Indigenous and stakeholder questions/concerns. Play a key role in mitigating/managing stakeholder/Indigenous complaints/issues by proactively identifying and resolving challenges. Provide expert advice when incorporating new processes and program delivery through the lens of cultural knowledge. Assist PCA staff/physicians so they better understand the complex jurisdictional issues affecting Indigenous health care services and programs while ensuring continuity of care within a multi-jurisdictional system. Engage FNMI communities, developing trust and collaboration with PCA. Represent the IWC with the North Corridor senior leadership and medical leadership.

Description:

The Senior Advisor - North (SAN) works in partnership with Primary Care Alberta (PCA) programs to support Indigenous community specific implementation of PCA initiatives and programs. The SAN will establish/maintain strong relationships with Indigenous Health leaders/stakeholders to understand their primary health care concerns, raising awareness of Indigenous community needs and identifying relevant community primary health care and wellness priorities and gaps in services. The SAN works collaboratively, utilizing diverse Indigenous perspectives to identify challenges and opportunities to inform quality improvement across PCA programs and services. The SAN works with Primary Care Networks and Indigenous communities in assigned geographic areas to identify and support community implementation of appropriate PCA initiatives, programs, and services. The SA supports emergency management with rural/urban Indigenous communities, as require, and evaluation and implementation of culturally appropriate Indigenous Primary Care programs/services. The Senior Advisor - North works with IWC Project teams and Scientific Office to support meaningful local Indigenous health research and increased educational opportunities for the Indigenous community. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, PCA currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Required Qualifications:

A Baccalaureate degree in health, health promotion or related field, or relevant equivalent experiences.

Additional Required Qualifications:

More than 5 years' experience working with urban and/or rural First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities or Indigenous organizations. A minimum of five years in leadership, senior advisory, or community trusted roles within Indigenous organizations or initiatives. A demonstrated commitment to professional and personal development. Experience working within or alongside the healthcare system with understanding of its current structures and processes. Strong communication, relationship building, and influencing skills. Ability to manage complex priorities and deliver high quality, client focused services. Proven ability to foster partnerships with community organizations, public agencies, and government partners. Awareness of the politically sensitive and multi jurisdictional nature of Indigenous health work. Deep understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, protocols, and determinants of health, with applied practice experience. Aptitude for building and sustaining complex relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in healthcare or related field. Healthcare administration experience. Existing and proven connections to Indigenous communities in the North Health Corridor.
