Full Job Description
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) has one (1) exciting indeterminate opportunity within the Technology branch at CATSA Test Facility.

Summary of responsibilities:

The Senior Advisor, New Technology Introduction leads and coordinates the planning, testing, evaluation, and operational introduction of new screening technologies in support of CATSA's operations. The role provides expert technical and strategic advice on courses of action related to new and emerging technologies and ensures effective coordination across internal teams, vendors, regulators, airport authorities, and other stakeholders. The Senior Advisor provides subject matter expertise and oversight of New Technology Introduction activities, including advising stakeholders on complex technical, operational, and regulatory matters, ensuring analytical rigor, and supporting informed decision making. The role evaluates the performance, cybersecurity, and operational impacts of new hardware, software, and algorithms, applies advanced knowledge of networked systems and contractual technical requirements, and develops evidence based recommendations to support the effective integration of technologies into live airport environments. The Senior Advisor performs all other duties and responsibilities related to the position as required.

What you need to succeed

To qualify for the position, you must have:
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a specialization in engineering, physics, chemistry, computer science, information technology or another specialty in technology relevant to the duties of the position.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressive work experience in a technology-related field.
  • Experience leading complex projects involving the management of resources.
  • Experience in independently researching, analyzing, and providing recommendations to management regarding current and future technology needs.
  • Experience conducting and managing formal testing, trialing, and/or troubleshooting of complex technology.
  • Experience leading and influencing complex engagements with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of project management tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the theories, technology evaluation/validation and technical reporting.
  • Knowledge of networked screening systems, including centralized equipment networking, to support new fielded technologies and the integration of operational data into CATSA's business intelligence.

  • Knowledge of the trends and developments of new aviation screening technologies, or other issues impacting the development/implementation of equipment performance and operational standards, and equipment testing and evaluation practices.
  • Knowledge of CATSA's mandate and priorities, as well as an awareness of relevant legislation impacting CATSA.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for screening technologies, including application of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, relevant security standards, SIEM/logging requirements, cybersecurity risk identification, and the ability to audit and validate vendor compliance during technology trials and deployments.
  • Knowledge in developing and reviewing contractual technical requirements for complex technologies, including performance, functional, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of aviation security screening technologies.


Specific work requirements:

  • Ability to travel as required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; and
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
