Full Job Description
Your Opportunity:

Health Shared Services Labour Relations (LR) is recruiting a Senior Advisor to join the Provincial Labour Relations team. The team provides strategic LR expertise to Human Resources professionals who support operational leaders across Alberta's health system. In this role, you'll serve as a trusted advisor to approximately 20 HR professionals, providing guidance on complex labour and employment matters to promote consistent labour relations practices across Alberta's health system. You'll support performance management, accommodation and attendance issues, collective agreement interpretation and administration, policy development, and strategic grievance management. You'll also deliver LR education and coaching to HR professionals and leaders, participate in mediation and arbitration proceedings, and act as a labour relations expert, nominee and, at times, counsel in grievance arbitrations. Drawing from your labour relations knowledge, you'll translate legislation, collective agreements, and arbitration jurisprudence into practical solutions. You're a skilled communicator and relationship builder who can simplify complex LR concepts, build confidence and capability in others, and influence decision-making in a fast-paced, highly unionized environment.

Description:

You will provide expert labour relations consultation and education to promote sound people-management practices, legislative compliance, and effective labour-management relationships. As a strategic business partner, you will advise on workforce initiatives to minimize disruption and reduce the risk of formal disputes, including grievances, Human Rights complaints, and Labour Board complaints. You will provide guidance on complex people matters, including collective agreement interpretation, performance management, investigations, employee discipline and dismissal, and accommodations. You will also support strategic dispute management by assessing grievances on their merits, coaching clients on potential resolutions, and participating in grievance arbitration as a labour relations expert, nominee, or counsel. In addition, you will contribute to labour relations resources, tools, and learning initiatives for HR professionals and leaders on topics such as the Role of the Union, Managing in a Unionized Workplace, and Foundations of Discipline.
