The Senior Advisor, H&S, is part of EPCOR's Electricity Operations and Corporate Services team. They are accountable for liaising with internal and external customers to support the business unit in managing operational risk and achieving strategic H&S goals. This includes developing and implementing H&S programs that help operational areas understand and control hazards, respond and investigate incidents, policies, standards, procedures and legislation compliance, and take proactive measures to improve performance in health, safety and environment.What You'll Do
  • Serves as a recognized Health & Safety (H&S) Subject Matter Expert (SME) for confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, occupational hygiene, ground disturbance, rescue operations, workplace inspections, and incident site response across multiple operational business units.
  • Provides expert advice and guidance to employees, managers, directors, senior leadership, contractors, and H&S committees on regulatory compliance, hazard assessments, safe work planning, legislative changes, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Leads and supports H&S strategic initiatives and program development, including the EDTI Hot Work Program, Confined Space Entry (CSE) Program, Safe Work Practices (SWP) application development, emergency response planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Acts as a key liaison between internal and external stakeholders, including operations teams, auditors, vendors, contractors, training providers, WCB, and industry peers to promote innovation, ensure compliance, and adopt industry best practices.
  • Facilitates implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the H&S Management System, serving as a lead SME during major audits including ISO, ISAT, and COR assessments.
  • Leads incident investigations and provides incident site response support while serving as the out-of-office contact for Injury Management, Contractor Management, the Senior Advisor, Injury Management, and the Manager, Health & Safety.
  • Conducts and supports hazard assessments, field compliance reviews, performance monitoring, risk analysis, and development of corrective actions to improve safety outcomes and reduce risk exposure.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and education to H&S professionals and operational stakeholders, delivering training and developing competency programs across a wide range of operational areas, including underground, aerial, civil construction, transmission, and materials support functions.
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains H&S training programs, procedures, protocols, and inspection programs, including confined space entry, ground disturbance, trench rescue, workplace inspections, rescue equipment, and fall protection equipment.
  • Monitors and analyzes H&S performance trends, communicates lessons learned, safety alerts, and team talks, and drives stakeholder engagement to strengthen H&S culture and compliance across EDTI operations.
  • Networks with industry peers and external organizations to identify emerging best practices and incorporate them into EPCOR procedures, training programs, and operational safety standards.
  • Regularly interprets and communicates occupational health and safety legislation changes, ensuring all assigned program elements remain aligned with legal and regulatory requirements.
What You Bring Knowledge/Training/Education
  • Post-secondary degree and/or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • 5-8 years of experience managing H&S processes, programs and tools.
  • Good standing designation with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP); or Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CSP).
  • Strong understanding of H&S regulatory requirements.
  • Consistently demonstrates a high level of expertise in H&S regulatory requirements. Consistently recognized as an H&S expert by peers within EDTI, across BU's, and with operational stakeholders.
Technical Skills
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, SharePoint and Excel.
  • Experience with public speaking, presenting and facilitating.
  • Knowledge/experience with auditing tools including the Alberta Partnerships Certificate of Recognition and ISO 45001:2018.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, causal analysis, audits, and creating/delivering training materials.
  • Knowledge/experience with project management, risk analysis and the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License (with 6 demerits or less) and Driver's Abstract.
  • Clearance on pre-assignment drug and alcohol testing and a background check will also be required.
  • Consistently applies strategic and critical thinking in all aspects of work.
The following will be considered an asset:
  • Experience in the utility industry, specifically electrical utility operations, construction and/or trades environment.
  • Previous operational or trades experience.
  • Experience with confined space entry safety.
Work Environment This is a full-time professional role (Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week) within a high-performance HSE team dedicated to collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional service.Application Deadline: July 20, 2026
