Help Shape the Financial Future of Ontario's Workers' Compensation System

At WSIB, your work has a purpose beyond the numbers. As a Senior Actuarial Consultant, you'll play a key role in ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of Ontario's workers' compensation system that supports millions of workers and employers across the province. Working closely with the Chief Actuary, CFO, and senior finance leaders, you'll provide strategic actuarial advice, lead complex valuation and forecasting initiatives, and contribute to high-profile modernization projects that help shape the future of WSIB.

This is an opportunity for an experienced actuary to combine advanced technical expertise, project leadership, and executive-level influence while working on unique actuarial challenges that extend beyond traditional insurance environments.

What You'll Do:

Lead Complex Actuarial Analysis and Projects by:
  • Reviewing actuarial methods, models, and assumptions
  • Providing guidance and technical expertise to actuarial staff
  • Analyzing and validating actuarial results for accuracy and reasonableness
  • Leading project teams and ensuring key deliverables and timelines are achieved

Key areas of responsibility include:
  • Valuation of benefit liabilities
  • Funding and financial forecasting
  • Premium and administration rate setting
  • Experience rating programs
  • Development and enhancement of actuarial methodologies and models


Deliver Strategic Advice and Actuarial Insights:
  • Prepare reports, recommendations, and actuarial analyses for senior leadership
  • Support decision-making by developing reliable actuarial models and forecasts
  • Monitor changes in actuarial standards, industry practices, and WSIB policies
  • Present actuarial findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, employers, and actuarial professionals


Lead Experience Studies and Special Projects such as:
  • Mortality, termination, health care, and occupational disease studies
  • Economic and administration cost studies
  • Legislative and policy costing analyses
  • Stochastic modelling and model enhancements
  • Funding and asset-liability management initiatives
  • New methodologies, systems, and actuarial processes
  • Emerging accounting and reporting requirements


Build Partnerships Across the Organization

Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization and develop relationships with external partners, including auditors, actuarial consultants, employers, government agencies, industry organizations, and workers' compensation boards across Canada.

What We're Looking For:

Education & Professional Designation
  • University degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Fellowship designation (FCIA, FSA, or FCAS)


Experience
  • 10+ years of actuarial experience within insurance, pensions, employee benefits, workers' compensation, consulting, or a related environment
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience post-Fellowship designation
  • Experience leading complex actuarial projects and cross-functional initiatives
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex actuarial concepts to executive and non-technical audiences

  • Long-term liability modelling
  • Funding and capital management
