Senior Accountant

Pisces Healthcare Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team in Winchester, Virginia. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a growing, fast-paced organization and wants to play an important role in strengthening financial processes, reporting, and internal controls.

Reporting to and working closely with the Controller, the Senior Accountant will perform advanced accounting functions, support month-end close and financial reporting, and serve as a technical resource to other members of the Accounting team.

What You'll Do

Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Manage weekly ACH and check payment runs for assigned vendors.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to vendor inquiries via email and phone.
  • Prepare accurate account reconciliations and assist with month-end closing activities.
  • Analyze and review accounts receivable and assist as needed.
  • Review, prepare and submit sales tax filings in conjunction with outside consultants.
  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Support preparation of internal financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
  • Assist with requests from outside accountants/auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.

Operational & Technical Accounting Support
  • Oversee complex account reconciliations, including inventory, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
  • Assist with revenue recognition, expense allocation, and cost accounting activities.
  • Support external audits, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to Accounting Specialists. Assist with training new hires.
  • Review work for accuracy and completeness; provide guidance and training as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, HR, and Finance leadership to support business initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and increased efficiency.
  • Work directly with the Controller to provide accurate, consistent and timely financial reporting.

Systems & Process Improvement
  • Support accounting system maintenance and optimization (e.g., ERP, accounting software, reporting tools).
  • Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and testing as needed.
  • Maintain strong documentation of processes and internal controls.


Requirements

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a multi-entity or multi-location organization.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems; NetSuite or similar ERP experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred.
  • Experience within healthcare, distribution, or a multi-state organization.
  • Experience supporting audits, tax filings, and compliance reporting.
  • Previous experience mentoring, training, or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff.
Salary Description

$85,000 - $95,000
