Department: Finance
Location: Hybrid, must reside in the Sacramento / Roseville, CA metro area
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer, with technical guidance from our fractional Controller
Pay range: $75,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience
About the RoleWe're building our accounting function around a new model: a fractional Controller for technical guidance and review, and a strong Senior Accountant carrying the day-to-day. This posting is for that second seat.
You'll be the senior accounting professional inside the business, running the general ledger and month-end close, producing the financial statements leadership works from, keeping our compliance and filing obligations on track, and making sure the transaction cycles that feed all of it stay accurate and current. That means real authority and real visibility. There is no layer between your work and the people making decisions with it.
It also means a small, hands-on team where the person who owns a process is often the person who runs it. If you want a role where you specialize narrowly and hand everything off, this isn't it. If you like owning the whole picture and seeing every piece through, you'll be hard to pry out of this seat.
What You'll Own- The close. Journal entries, general ledger integrity, and an accurate monthly and quarterly close that lands on time, every time.
- The balance sheet. Account reconciliations, with variances caught and explained before anyone else finds them.
- Accounts payable. Vendor invoices and payments processed accurately and on schedule, relationships protected, cash timed well.
- Accounts receivable. Oversight of billing, collections, and cash application across our customers and sponsors, so revenue lands where and when it should.
- Reporting. Financial statements and supporting schedules that leadership can actually read and act on.
- Compliance. Audit support, tax and regulatory filings, and the deadlines that come with them.
- The system itself. Internal controls that hold up, and documented processes so the function is resilient rather than dependent on any one person's memory.
- Partnership. Working with the Controller, the COO, and colleagues across the business on budgeting and the financial questions that shape decisions.
What Success Looks Like in Year One- Close is predictable and on schedule, with clean reconciliations and no surprises surfacing after the fact.
- Leadership trusts the monthly financials enough to make decisions from them without asking for a second look.
- AP and AR run on documented, repeatable processes that don't live in one person's head.
- Audit and filing deadlines are met without a scramble.
What You'll Bring- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience across general ledger, month-end close, and AP/AR
- Experience as the senior-most accountant inside a lean finance team, you've carried a full close on your own shoulders, not just a piece of one
- Strong command of GAAP and internal controls, and the judgment to know when something doesn't look right
- Working knowledge of accounting/ERP software and genuinely strong spreadsheet skills
- Sharp attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to hold several deadlines at once without dropping one
- Clear communication, you can explain a variance to someone who doesn't speak accounting
- Must reside in the Sacramento or Roseville, CA metro area
Nice to have:
- Payroll experience
- Experience in a services, subscription, or B2B2C business
- CPA, or progress toward one, valued, but not required
Why Join MSAScope you can't get at a bigger company. At most organizations, a role like this is one narrow slice of a large department. Here, you see the whole picture, and the people making decisions with your numbers sit down the hall.
Backup where it counts. A fractional Controller means you have an experienced technical partner to pressure-test the hard calls, without a layer of management between you and the work.
A mission that isn't decorative. We help people move from financially stressed to financially confident. You'd be doing that work for the company that does that work.
Hybrid flexibility. A schedule that balances in-office collaboration with remote focus time.
The posted pay range reflects the range MSA reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
