  • Reconcile inventory balances with MPC and third-party partners.
  • Complete monthly closeout activities within scheduled timelines.
  • Create and maintain general ledger accounts and reconcile using Blackline.
  • Mentor and assist less experienced accountants, guiding their work.

Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opportunity for a Senior Accountant to support Operations Accounting's Crude Oil activity. This team has responsibilities that include accounting for purchases and sales of Crude Oil, performing inventory reconciliations, and supporting various front office and operating areas. The successful candidate will need to be a self-starting and driven individual, with strong customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment. This position will work closely with various organizations across the company, including Trading, Scheduling, Treasury, Tax, and Customs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with traders and schedulers to ensure all purchases and sales by various modes of transportation are recorded, matched and distributed.
  • Utilize RightAngle and supporting applications to ensure product activity is recorded timely and accurately for assigned locations.
  • Ensure timely payment of product purchases by investigating and resolving vendor invoice discrepancies.
  • Reconcile inventory balances at assigned locations, working closely with MPC and third-party business partners to investigate discrepancies.
  • Complete monthly closeout activities within scheduled timelines.
  • Creates and records journal entries and other transactions, maintains general ledger, and reconciles accounts in Blackline.
  • Serves as a resource or lead to less experienced accountants. May train, mentor, assist in providing direction or review the work of newer accountants.
  • Supports accounting processes through managing and prioritizing business requirements, system enhancements, and/or accounting standards.
  • Ensures standard business processes are followed across multiple accounting functions.
  • Ensures proper execution of controls and performance, documentation, and retention in accordance with accounting policy.
  • May provide accounting advice to leadership to assist them in managing their responsibilities.
  • May document, update, and maintain internal procedures or work on special projects.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of Accounting/Finance experience
  • Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, financial statements and reports, and ledgers and journals
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • RightAngle and SAP experience preferred
